March 1 – Grace v. Works. Romans 3:20; “Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
_____
Even though our Mormon reference today contains numerous incorrect biblical interpretations, for now we’re just focusing on the topic of grace vs. works.
Share the scripture in Romans with your LDS friend, and show that in Romans chapters 3 & 4 alone, Paul mentions salvation (eternal life) is a free gift no less than fifteen times!
While the Mormon may pull out James 2:17-26, explain how James was attacking the theory that works alone saves. This is known as a ‘dead faith’, rather than having a saving faith which produces good works.
A saving faith produces a drastic change in one’s life. You do ‘good works’ because you know God has already saved you, the undeserving sinner.
In other words, you’re acting on the basis of being grateful, and not performing in hopes that God will accept your performance so you can have eternal life.
