The oaths taken in the Masonic Lodge were the blueprint for where Smith received ‘revelation’ for the Mormon temples. They take oaths to Ba’al and the Grand Master of Masonry to bring them forth from darkness to light.

“Joseph Smith joined the Masons to promote goodwill towards his people. He was true to his Masonic pledges. But Masonry could not overcome the hatred fired by untruth, when truth raised its banner. The experiment was a failure. The formation of the Nauvoo lodge rather hindered than helped the cause of the Church.
This must not be taken as a charge against Masonry. The Nauvoo affairs were local; therefore, the Masonic order at large could not be blamed for what occurred there.” — John A. Widtsoe, Joseph Smith—Seeker after Truth, Prophet of God [Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1951], 300.

Ask the Mormon you know what they think about Smith joining the Lodge and taking oaths to the god of Masonry. We’ll be posting about Smith’s involvement and the lodge in the next few days so stay tuned!
