November 30 — “The Bible, as it has been transmitted over the centuries, has suffered the loss of many plain and precious parts…Unfortunately, no original manuscripts of any portion of the Bible are available for comparison to determine the most accurate version. However, the Lord has revealed clearly the doctrines of the gospel in these latter days. The most reliable way to measure the accuracy of any biblical passage is not by comparing different texts, but by comparison with the Book of Mormon and modern-day revelations.” — ChurchNews.com

Acts 17:11 “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
_____
“… [They] searched the scriptures daily”. That puts things into perspective for us wouldn’t you say? How else would we know the word of God?
The Church posted this notice in 1994 to relay to members and the world they believe in the word of God but not really.
Making excuses there are no extant manuscripts of the Bible they’ve stuck their heads in the sand and refuse to look at evidence to prove the reliability of Scripture.
As Christians we can compare the Bible with other works of men, but our standard of truth is the Bible itself. If or when we want to know more about a certain society mentioned in the Bible, we have history books, news provided by outside sources that lived during the time, and many archaeological finds that can provide further insight about the people.
If there is no set standard from which to begin, we have no guarantees our findings will testify truthfully.
If you’re LDS, where do you go for truth? We pray you retrieve info from sources outside the Church to use as a comparison. Remember what Jesus said John 8:32 – “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”.

The Bible didnt lose any plain and precious parts. The Bible is God’s word. If they dont believe God’s word and follow another gospel, then they are lost. Prayers for all Mormons.

To MJ –
His word is perfect and as you pointed out believing anything else means you’re lost. We pray they would go to His word!
What I always find interesting is that the LDS downplays all the historical finds of ancient manuscripts of the Bible–which support the current translations we have. So where did the “precious parts” go and what were they?
I’ve always had the same questions as well. Keep praying they will do the same thing!
