‘…And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.’ Acts 11:26

January 17 — Liahona and Ensign, November 2012 “A Christian has faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, that He is the literal Son of God, sent by His Father to suffer for our sins in the supreme act of love we know as the Atonement.

Through the scriptures and the witness of Joseph Smith, we know that God, our Heavenly Father, has a glorified and perfected body of flesh and bone. Jesus Christ is His Only Begotten Son in the flesh. The Holy Ghost is a personage of spirit whose work is to testify of the Father and the Son. The Godhead is three separate and distinct beings, unified in purpose.

With these doctrines as the foundation of our faith, can there be any doubt or disputation that we, as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, are Christian?” — Robert D. Hales, Being a More Christian Christian (more…)

July 8 — Preparing the World for Joseph Smith. “Preparations for the Restoration and the Second Coming: “My Hand Shall Be over Thee,”” Ensign, Nov.2005, 92 “Before that sacred night in Bethlehem, the events of history and the words of the prophets of all dispensations prepared the way for the first coming of the Lord and His Atonement. Similarly, history and prophecy laid the groundwork for the Restoration of the gospel through the Prophet Joseph Smith. Do we have eyes to see that the events and prophecies of our time are preparing us for the Savior’s Second Coming?” – Robert D. Hales (more…)

Ensign, ‘Ministering Through Self-Reliance,’ August 2020 ““Self-reliance is taking responsibility for our own spiritual and temporal welfare and for those whom Heavenly Father has entrusted to our care. Only when we are self-reliant can we truly emulate the Savior in serving and blessing others.

Melissa e-mailed me the meme of a Mormon quote that’s quite popular on FB. She mentioned the quote had no reference on where to find the original source so I went looking around and found this in a speech given by one of their apostles, Robert D. Hales.

Our question is this –

If you’re a true prophet of God wouldn’t you know your salvation is dependent upon the works of Jesus and not yourself?

Really now, if their commander in chief doesn’t have faith in what he’s doing, how are the followers supposed to have unquestioning faith?

Luke 18:11, 13; “The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.”

Mormon Today, ‘Elder Hales’ Advice on How to End Your Prayer Could Change Your Life’;  “When we end our prayers with “Thy will be done,” we are doing what the Savior did in the Garden of Gethsemane, for what we are saying is, “Whatever the test, whatever I’m to learn, I will always love Thee.” – Robert D. Hales

Romans 8:26-27; “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

Witnessing Tip of the Day April 2April 7 – Role of the Holy Spirit. There are many ways in which God’s Holy Spirit works inside of us. One of those ways is the fruits of the Holy Spirit – Galatians 5:22-23. Another is the way in how He works inside of us on a daily basis, moment by moment, guiding us along in life. John 16:13; “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”

robert halesEnsign, “The Eternal Family,” Nov. 1996, p. 65; “Because of the importance of the family to the eternal plan of happiness, Satan makes a major effort to destroy the sanctity of the family, demean the importance of the role of men and women, encourage moral uncleanliness and violations of the sacred law of chastity, and to discourage parents from placing the bearing and rearing of children as one of their highest priorities.” – Robert D. Hales
