The Improvement Era, Vol. 64, No. 12, December 1961, pp. 924-925Joseph Fielding Smith's Response BoM Changes; “During the past week or two I have received a number of letters from different parts of the United States written by people, some of whom at least are a little concerned because they have been approached by enemies of the Church and enemies of the Book of Mormon, who have made the statement that there have been one or two or more thousand changes in the Book of Mormon since the first edition was published. Well, of course, there is no truth in that statement.

“It is true that when the Book of Mormon was printed the printer was a man who was unfriendly. The publication of the book was done under adverse circumstances, and there were a few errors, mostly typographical – conditions that arise in most any book that is being published – but there was not one thing in the Book of Mormon or in the second edition or any other edition since that in any way contradicts the first edition, and such changes as were made were made by the Prophet Joseph Smith because under those adverse conditions the Book of Mormon was published. But there was no change of doctrine.

“Now, these Sons of Belial who circulate these reports evidently know better. I will not use the word that is in my mind.” – Joseph Fielding Smith

Quick! Can you share info about the 3rd major event in the Bible with an unbeliever?

1.God created the universe.

2.The Fall of Adam and Eve.

3.Cain and Abel.

While I realize my list is a subjective, ‘Reader’s Digest’ version of the Bible’s opening scenes, I would argue the majority of Christians are well aware of what took place at the beginning of time.

Furthermore, I’m just as sure the majority, if not all Christians, would know where to find the events of Cain, and Abel.

In Genesis 4:1-2 we read,

“And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. 2 And she again bare his brother Abel…”

Now, you’re probably wondering okay…but what’s up?

General Conference, October 1960, p. 34; “The day of the Lamanites is nigh. For years they have been growing delightsome, and they are now becoming white and delightsome, as they were promised. …At one meeting a father and mother  and their sixteen-year-old daughter were present, the little member girl – sixteen – sitting between the dark father and mother, and it was evident she was several shades lighter than her parents…These young members of the Church are changing to whiteness and delightsomeness.” – Spencer W. Kimball

Teachings of The Presidents of the Church, Spencer W. Kimball, pp. 26-27; “This is the message of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. …

When Adam intentionally and wisely partook of the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden, he brought upon all of us, his descendants, two deaths—the physical or “mortal death,” and the spiritual death or the banishment from the presence of the Lord. In God’s divine plan, provision was made for a redeemer to break the bonds of death and… Jesus of Nazareth was the one who, before the world was created, was chosen to come to earth to perform this service…” [emp. mine]

Answers to Gospel Questions 3:207; “Question: “Why did Christ have to shed his blood in the atonement to relieve us of the responsibility of the fall?”

Answer: The reason that the blood of Christ had to be shed is because Adam was without blood before the fall. The blood came into his body afterwards. Therefore, it was necessary that the blood which came by the fall should be shed in the atonement.” – Joseph Fielding Smith

November Witnessing Tip of the DayNovember 4 – Jude 1:3-4; “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. 4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Matthew 5:9; “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”

FIRST PRESIDENCY MESSAGE, ‘The Order and Will of God,’ January 1989

Gordon B. Hinckley“So many of us are prone to say we forgive, when in fact we are unwilling to forget. If the Lord is willing to forget the sins of the repentant, then why are so many of us inclined to bring up the past again and again? Here is a great lesson we all need to learn. There is no true forgiveness without forgetting.” – Gordon B. Hinckley
