‘…why it was necessary that his blood should be shed is an apparent mystery….’
Journal of Discourses 10:114 “It is not fully comprehended why it was necessary that Jesus Christ should leave the heavens, … and come upon the earth to offer himself up a sacrifice… why this should be, why it was necessary that his blood should be shed is an apparent mystery…. What sins of the world did he take away? We are told that it is the sin which Adam committed.” — John Taylor, Great Salt Lake City, February 22, 1863
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Mr. Taylor’s remarks are one of the reasons why Mormons aren’t saved. His ‘deep insight’, or the lack thereof, speaks volumes. Talks like this one are littered throughout Mormonism, so this particular one isn’t all that unique.
The verse in John’s gospel is a great synopsis of why Jesus’ blood was spilt at Calvary, and always serves as a great segue for a conversation with the Mormon you know.
On our site is an article for the Romans Road. It’s a step by step explanation of why we need a Savior. Taylor’s words also remind me of what I was like as a Mormon. Whenever someone told me I was a sinner, I was highly offended, and usually left the conversation. I knew I sinned, but somehow there was a disconnect if someone called me a sinner. This is how Satan deceives!
Share the Romans Road with those you love, and remind them of how thankful you are for the gift God gave to all of us!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
Oh WOW… Seriously.
Matt 26:28 this is my blood of the New testament which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; And without the shedding of blood is no remission.
I could go on.
I know the feeling! That’s why I used the Romans Road. My article would’ve gone on and on and on and on and on…. Sigh…
Oh my bad…Happy Thanksgiving Michelle.
The entire Old Testament tells of the coming of Jesus as early as Genesis 3:14-16. In Hebrews 2:14-18, God explains why it was necessary to send Jesus to sacrifice himself for us. In Isaiah 55:11, God tells us that “No Word that proceedeth forth from his mouth shall return unto him void”. If he promised us a Savior in the Old Testament, He was, by golly, going to deliver unto us a savior. In Luke 1:30-36, the angel speaks to Mary and tells her that she going to give birth to the Messiah, the Savior of Mankind.
If these old Mormon boys had bothered to read their Bibles and not listen to the likes of their apostles and leaders, quotes from the likes of John Taylor in JOD would never have been paid attention to.
What you have in Mormonism is a bunch of guys with vivid and evil imaginations and millions that follow them, only because it is easier to listen to their dark ramblings than it is to grab a Bible sand start reading
