Answers to Gospel Questions 3:207 “Question: “Why did Christ have to shed his blood in the atonement to relieve us of the responsibility of the fall?”

Answer: The reason that the blood of Christ had to be shed is because Adam was without blood before the fall. The blood came into his body afterwards. Therefore, it was necessary that the blood which came by the fall should be shed in the atonement.” – Joseph Fielding Smith

Journal of Discourses, 3:205-206 “…God never bestows upon His people, or upon an individual, superior blessings without a severe trial to prove they will keep their covenants with Him…For this express purpose the Father withdrew His spirit from His son, at the time he was to be crucified.

Jesus had been with his Father, talked with Him, dwelt in His bosom, and knew all about heaven, about making the earth, about the transgression of man, and what would redeem the people, and that he was the character who was to redeem the sons of earth, and the earth itself from all sin that had come upon it.

The light, knowledge, power, and glory with which he was clothed were far above, or exceeded that of all others who had been upon the earth after the fall, consequently at the very moment, at the hour when the crisis came for him to offer up his life, the Father withdrew Himself, withdrew His Spirit, and cast a veil over him.

That is what made him sweat blood. If he had had the power of God upon him, he would not have sweat blood; but all was withdrawn from him, and a veil was cast over him, and he then plead with the Father not to forsake him. ‘No,’ says the Father, ‘you must have your trials, as well as the others.’” – Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, February 17, 1856 [emp. added]

General Conference, ‘If Ye Lack Wisdom, April 2014 “In the kingdom of God, the search for truth is appreciated, encouraged, and in no way repressed or feared. Church members are strongly counseled by the Lord Himself to seek for knowledge. He said, “Seek ye diligently … ; yea, seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith.” — Marcos A. Aidukaitis (more…)

Journal of Discourses 13:44 “These principles seem to be clearly understood, and in them the people are apparently fully indoctrinated; and though men may deny the faith, in one sense, and turn away from the path of righteousness, and dissolve their connection with the Church, yet they will cling, in most instances, to what we term the first principles of the Gospel of Christ; and it is a very rare thing to see those who have been members … turning away and joining what we call sectarian churches. If they leave this Church, it is an exceedingly difficult thing for them to connect themselves with other denominations, because the Scriptures are so familiar to them…” – George Q. Cannon, Salt Lake City, December 5, 1869 (more…)

Journal of Discourses 1:88-89 “…Brother [Ira] Ames has said that “‘Mormonism’ will progress.” If it does not, God will be dethroned, for when He undertakes to do anything, it will be done … “Mormonism” stands upon the eternal basis of omnipotence. Jehovah is the “Mormonism” of this people, their Priesthood and their power; and all who adhere to it, will, in the appointed day, come up into the presence of the King Eternal, and receive a crown of life.” – Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, June 13, 1852 Also see Mormonism Research Ministry. History of the Church 5:401 “I am like a huge, rough stone rolling down from a high mountain; and the only polishing I get is when some corner gets rubbed off by coming in contact with something else, striking with accelerated force against religious bigotry, priestcraft, lawyer-craft, doctor-craft, lying editors, suborned judges and jurors, and the authority of perjured executives, backed by mobs, blasphemers, licentious and corrupt men and women–all hell knocking off a corner here and a corner there. Thus I will become a smooth and polished shaft in the quiver of the Almighty, who will give me dominion over all and every one of them when their refuge of lies shall fail, and their hiding place shall be destroyed, while these smooth-polished stones with which I come in contact become marred.” – Joseph Smith,  May 21, 1843 (more…)

Journal of Discourses 21:159 “It was this priesthood that would be the means of introducing him into the presence of God that Abraham found that he was a rightful inheritor of, according to his lineage and descent, and he applied for an ordination, which he received, according to the revelation given unto us, and with that ordination the powers, the blessings, the light, intelligence and revelation associated with the Gospel of the Son of God.” – John Taylor, 14th Ward Meetinghouse, December 7, 1879 (more…)

While looking for a reference on our site, I came across a HUGE oversight. Yikes! All this time I thought I had published all of our Mormon Quotes. Come to find out I hadn’t. Ugh. So today we’re posting the missing references for ‘A’, and ‘B’. Minor details. 🙂

Everything from ‘C’ onward should be okay! The real story here is that we pray it helps Christians as a witnessing tool to Mormons. And for the Mormons, we pray you’ll verify what we’ve presented with what the Church says so you’ll see how LDS teachings aren’t orthodox and far from godly. Here we go! (more…)

John 20:25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

If you know anything about Mormonism you’ve most certainly heard the phrase, ‘Of course we’re Christian, Jesus’ name is in the title of our church’.

Many have questioned why anyone would doubt their claim of being a Christian organization because of how ‘nice’ they seem to be outwardly, along with their clean-cut appearance. For sure, they do seem like someone you could write home about.

Aside from all the claims they’ve made about being a Christian organization from Joe Smith onward, Christians can be assured Mormons aren’t speaking truth based on one thing an LDS apostle said.

Journal of Discourses 13:140; “I will say with regard to miracles, there is no such thing save to the ignorant—that is, there never was a result wrought out by God or by any of His creatures without there being a cause for it. There may be results, the causes of which we do not see or understand, and what we call miracles are no more than this—they are the results or effects of causes hidden from our understandings.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, July 11, 1869

On September 11, 1857, one hundred and twenty innocent, and unarmed men, women, and children were ambushed by blood-thirsty Mormons lying in wait for their intended victims.

In the end, only one man was brought to trial, and subsequently executed for the horrendous deed. John D. Lee became the unwitting fall guy for Brigham and his henchmen. Because of the power Brigham Young wielded in the territory, he came out unscathed from the ordeal, albeit, the Feds knew better while looking the other way.

Plan of Salvation; “In the premortal existence, Heavenly Father prepared a plan to enable us to become like Him and receive a fulness of joy. The scriptures refer to this plan as “the plan of salvation” (Alma 24:14; Moses 6:62), “the great plan of happiness” (Alma 42:8), “the plan of redemption” (Jacob 6:8; Alma 12:30), and “the plan of mercy” (Alma 42:15). The plan of salvation is the fulness of the gospel. It includes the Creation, the Fall, the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and all the laws, ordinances, and doctrines of the gospel. Moral agency, the ability to choose and act for ourselves, is also essential in Heavenly Father’s plan. Because of this plan, we can be perfected through the Atonement, receive a fulness of joy, and live forever in the presence of God. Our family relationships can last throughout the eternities.” – LDS.org

The Seer, p. 153; “God loves the children of men according to their works, or according to their good qualities He perceives in them: those who do the best he loves the best: if they do equally well, He loves them equally. Journal of Discourses 4:372; “Giving endowments to a great many proves their overthrow, through revealing things to them which they cannot keep. They are not worthy to receive them. Brother Heber takes the lead in giving endowments, and you may ask, “Why do you give such folks their endowments?” To qualify them to be devils, if they wish to be. The plan of salvation is calculated to make devils as well as Saints; for by and by we shall need some to serve as devils; and it takes almost as much knowledge to make a complete devil as it does to fit a man to go into the celestial kingdom of God, and become an heir to His kingdom. We want to complete the education of a number of such fellows.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, June 28, 1857

Mormonism Unveiled—Truth Vindicated, by Parley P. Pratt, pp. 14-15; “Now, Mr. Sunderland…. I will state as a prophesy, that there will not be an unbelieving Gentile upon this continent 50 years hence; and if they are not greatly scourged, and in a great measure overthrown, within five or ten years from this date, then the Book of Mormon will have proved itself false.” – Parley Parker Pratt, 1838

Journal of Discourses 11:269; “It is the word of the Lord, and I wish to say to you, and all the world, that if you desire with all your hearts to obtain the blessings which Abraham obtained, you will be polygamists at least in your faith, or you will come short of enjoying the salvation and the glory which Abraham has obtained. […] The only men who become Gods, even the Sons of God, are those who enter into polygamy.” —  Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake, August 19, 1866
