LDS: Glory of God = Number of Posterity

Journal of Discourses 14:128 “…concerning our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, “To the increase of his kingdom there shall be no end.” It shall go on increasing with every cycle of eternity, as long as time endures. There shall be no end to the increase of his kingdom. His glory consisted of this; and the glory of God consists in the number of his posterity … The Latter-day Saints live for this.” ─ George Quayle Cannon, New Tabernacle, Salt Lake City, April 8, 1871. Born Again Angels Were Mortals

Juvenile Instructor, Vol. 35, December 15, 1900, No. 24, p. 823 “Angels obeyed Gospel. We think angels are very holy beings. How did they become holy? How can they dwell in the presence of God? They have become holy through obeying that Gospel which is taught to us. Every child who obeys that Gospel can become an angel in character and disposition. There was a time when angels were mortal as we are, and they were tempted as we are. But they resisted temptation. By the aid of God’s Holy Spirit they conquered their evil inclinations. They were born again and continued to resist evil until they became angels.” — George Q. Cannon, Gospel Truth: Discourses and Writings of President George Q. Mormon Concubines

We posted the following article in 2015, but they still haven’t denounced this idolatrous teaching!
If you’re LDS, is this what you expect from your leaders?
Daily Journal of Abraham H. Cannon, April 15, 1894, v. 18, p. 70; “Father [George Q. Cannon] now spoke of the unfortunate condition of the people at present in regard to marriage…. ‘I believe in concubinage, or some plan whereby men and women can live together under sacred ordinances and vows until they can be married…. such a condition would have to be kept secret, until the laws of our government change to permit the holy order of wedlock which God has revealed, which will undoubtedly occur at no distant day, in order to correct the social evil….’
– Pres. Snow. ‘I have no doubt but concubinage will yet be practiced in this church, but I had not thought of it in this connection. When the nations are troubled good women will come here for safety and blessing, and men will accept them as concubines.’
– Pres. Woodruff: ‘If men enter into some practice of this character to raise a righteous posterity, they will be justified in it…’” (more…)
Fully Indoctrinated Mormons Won’t Join Other Denominations

Journal of Discourses 13:44 “These principles seem to be clearly understood, and in them the people are apparently fully indoctrinated; and though men may deny the faith, in one sense, and turn away from the path of righteousness, and dissolve their connection with the Church, yet they will cling, in most instances, to what we term the first principles of the Gospel of Christ; and it is a very rare thing to see those who have been members … turning away and joining what we call sectarian churches. If they leave this Church, it is an exceedingly difficult thing for them to connect themselves with other denominations, because the Scriptures are so familiar to them…” – George Q. Cannon, Salt Lake City, December 5, 1869 (more…)
How Mormonism Fools People
Posted in Bible, tagged false apostle, George Cannon, Journal of Discourses 22 on 07/03/2018| 4 Comments »
1 John 2:19 “They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.”
Today’s post stems from two things.
1.I found this speech in the Journal of Discourses Index under the title ‘Mormon Doctrine Conforms to the Bible’. I found it to be a good example of how the Church confuses people by using God’s word to fool them.
2.A post on our Facebook page from a Mormon asked me why I can’t leave the Church alone. George Cannon’s speech is a great example of why.
FYI: My apologies for its length. Quickly scan and save the parts you find most useful. We feel this is of such vital import, it mustn’t be overlooked, and Christians should take heed to the dangerous way this church operates. The tactics employed by Mr. Cannon are in full use today. Proof is found in the missionary knocking on your door.
This speech in its entirety could easily be considered a book because of how lengthy it is. I’ve trimmed it considerably by pulling some of statements therein. To read it in full, see link below.
Journal of Discourses 22:260-269 “President Cannon having read the whole of the 12th Chapter of the Epistle of Paul to the Corinthians, said: It is a blessed thing for us who live in this day and age to have records in our midst which have come down from olden times…as containing principles of life and of salvation…In this respect the chapter which I have read from this book is of priceless worth…
Then, why pray tell, has the Church rejected God’s word? Articles of Faith #8. (more…)

Journal of Discourses 26:186 – 187 “If it were possible for the Lord Jesus to descend from the mansions of glory and take possession of a mortal tabernacle, and be born of a woman in the shape of an infant, is it not equally possible that we all did the same? …
The Bible proves to us that Jesus existed with the Father, and that He descended from His high estate in the regions of glory to become a mortal man…Now, is there anything difficult or incomprehensible in the thought, that we all in like manner, existed with the Father, and with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, before we came here? ” – George Q. Did Joseph Smith Shed His Blood as God’s Testator?

Journal of Discourses 13:54; “The Lord permitted the enemies of the Kingdom of God to take away the life of His servant Joseph, as He did of His servants in ancient days. The blood of the testator was shed, and now the testament is in full force. Joseph had lifted up his voice in solemn warning to the inhabitants of the earth, and declared that God had spoken in these latter days. But his blood and that of other holy men and Saints was shed by wicked men…” – George Quayle Cannon, Salt Lake, December 5, 1869

Over the past few weeks we’ve received a lot of e-mails and/or comments on our blog and site expressing disdain for the work we do at the ministry. Some have been nice, which is always great!
My response to rude comments is this –
Why should Christians stand by and listen to the comments without defending the work God gave us to do?

Today we’re examining the last segment of George Q. Cannon’s talk on the rejection of the Christian God and the anti-Christian remarks he made.
Journal of Discourses 24:185 – 186; “I want a God of that kind if I can find Him, and I thank God that I have found Him, and that He has revealed Himself in these last days, and has established His Church as He did in ancient days, and has endowed it with the same powers that the ancient church possessed, and it has to undergo the same trials and temptations and the same persecution that the ancient church did.”

The Spirit of God bears testimony to the things of God, and there would be no difficulty in convincing the inhabitants of the earth of the truth of the principles believed in by the Latter-day Saints were it not for tradition and the prejudices which exist in men’s minds in relation to the truth. . . .” – George Cannon

Journal of Discourses 26:12; “The apostate will have his civil rights under that kingdom. The non-Mormon, or Gentile as he is called, will have his rights under that kingdom. The Chinaman, the negro, and the Indian—each of them will have his rights under that kingdom, and yet not be members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A good many of our people confound the Kingdom of God with the Church of God. Now there is a very wide distinction between the two. A man may, in one sense, be a member of the Church of Christ, and not a member of the Kingdom of God. The two organizations are entirely distinct.” – George Q. Cannon, Provo, Utah, November 20, 1881

Juvenile Instructor, Vol. 3, No. 20, October 15, 1868, pg 156-157; “The Negro Race. We understand that when God made man in his own image and pronounced him very good, that he made him white. We have no record of any of God’s favored servants being a black race. All His prophets and apostles belonged to the most handsome race on the face f the earth – Israel, who still, as represented in the scattered tribe of Judah, bear the impress of their former beauty. In this race was born His Son Jesus, who, we are told was very lovely, and “in the express image of his Father’s person,” and every angel who ever brought a message of God’s mercy to man was beautiful to look upon, clad in the purest white and with a countenance bright as the noonday sun.

In fact we believe it to be a great sin in the eyes of our Heavenly Father for a white person to marry a black one. And further, that it is a proof of the mercy of God that no such race appear to be able to continue for many generations.”

Christians Persecute True Religion
Gospel Truth, pg 333; “Where false religion prevails, men persecute and oppress those who are not of their own faith; they are frequently fierce, cruel, pitiless and do not feel content unless they are waging war against those who possess pure religion or who are striving to obtain a knowledge of it. The history of false religion is the history of crime and the most dreadful and shocking persecutions of men by their fellows.” – George Q. Cannon

Ezra Taft Benson
Journal of Discourses 6:181; “The next man who came on to the carpet wanted to know how many wives brother Brigham had. I replied, “I have not come here to lay before this people the domestic affairs of my Governor. It is a question I never asked him myself, for I never took the pains to inquire anything about it. But still, as I am a Yankee, I will guess, if that will do you any good. Now,” said I, “I will be honest with you, for your pastor has given me the freedom of speech; and if I may judge for appearances, I should presume he has some fifty or sixty.””
