February 21 — Ensign, ‘We Bear Witness of Him’, May 1998, p. 4 “We are met to worship the Lord, to declare His divinity and His living reality. We are met to reaffirm our love for Him and our knowledge of His love for us. No one, regardless of what he or she may say, can diminish that love.

There are some who try. For instance, there are some of other faiths who do not regard us as Christians. That is not important. How we regard ourselves is what is important. We acknowledge without hesitation that there are differences between us. Were this not so there would have been no need for a restoration of the gospel.” — Gordon B. Hinckley, 15th LDS Prophet (more…)

“If I covet any place on earth but the dust at the foot of the Cross, then I know nothing of Calvary love.” — Amy Carmichael

January 8 — The first Sunday I attended a Mormon Church I wore my cross necklace. I didn’t think anything of it because, I believed this was a Christian church. There should be no problem with a Christian wearing a cross necklace in a Christian church, right?

It didn’t take long to find out how wrong I was. After the service. I noticed people staring at me and talking about me. I heard one lady whisper to her friend, “maybe she doesn’t know?”. I asked my husband and his mom about why I was getting those reactions and they said it was probably because of my necklace. (more…)

May 4 — Christian Religion Brought Back by Mere Boy. History of the Church, Vol. 1, p. XLII “But if men through apostasy had corrupted the Christian religion and lost divine authority to administer the ordinances of the Gospel, it was of the utmost importance that a new dispensation of the true Christian religion should be given to the world. It should also be observed at this point, that Joseph Smith, then but a boy, scarcely removed from childhood, was not himself pronouncing judgment upon the status of Christendom. It was not he who declared the sects to be all wrong, their creeds an abomination, and the professors thereof corrupt.” (more…)

November 13 — So Many Nations and Just Two Kingdoms. 1 Nephi 14:10 “And he said unto me: Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore, whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth.” (more…)

September 15 — 4 Reasons to Reject LDS Restoration Claims. There are a number of reasons faithful members of the LDS Church should question Joseph Smith’s first vision. His so-called chance meeting with God, and Jesus in human form while praying in the ‘sacred grove’ raises many questions. Today we’re looking at a few of those.

By no means is this an exhaustive look at Mormonism. The topics listed simply come from questions/comments on our FB page, and LAM blogs.

In all sincerity, we pray Mormons will think about the following contradictions and reject what their church is doing…

Reason to Reject #1 — LDS Hymns (more…)

Mormon Dilemma 80

According to the LDS Church What is a Cult?

In Mormon Doctrine, pp. 174 & 699, Bruce McConkie defined a cult as “sects”.

Under the sects section it says;See APOSTASY, CHRISTIANITY, CREEDS, FIRST VISION, HARLOTS. Division and dissension, contention, confusion and discord — these are among the prevailing characteristics of the sects of Christendom.”

1 John 2:9 “He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.”

Today we’re looking at excerpts taken from a Mormon circular published in 1848 by LDS apostle, Orson Spencer.

While we’re not immune to coming across anti-Christian literature in Mormon propaganda, it was surprising to see an entire booklet dedicated to defaming Christianity. The booklet was written and printed for members living in Great Britain just four years after Joe, and Hyrum Smith were killed in Nauvoo, IL. Because of its sheer length, we’ve pulled a few quotes for examples. To read their entire circular, see link provided below.

Sadly, the Church’s attitude towards Christianity hasn’t changed. Proof  of this is seen in their canon — 1 Nephi 14:10. (more…)

Journal of Discourses 15:279 “There never was a more infidel generation of Christians on the face of the earth than there is to-day. They do not expect that God will do anything in a temporal point of view towards the fulfillment of his promises; they are not looking forward for the establishment of his kingdom, or for the building up of his Zion on the earth. Their eyes are closed to these things, because they have rejected the light.

When Joseph Smith brought this Gospel to the world, there was a great deal more faith in God, a great deal more faith in his revelations, and, according to the light they had, a great deal more pure and undefiled religion than there is now. We have carried the Gospel to all Christian nations who would permit us, and they have rejected it, and they are under condemnation.”  — Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, January 12, 1873 (more…)

Scrapbook of Mormon Literature, p. 536-542 “The UNKNOWN GOD REVEALED…Our Modern Altars to the Unknown God…It is a painful and confusing thing to the Christian investigator to be convinced, as he must be, by the fact that millions …are kneeling “To the Unknown God.”

One cannot say how many professed Christians really have a conscious knowledge of the God whom they reverence and whose Son they believe Jesus, the Christ, to be. But one may know without much inquiry that very few of our Christian churchmen have what we may be allowed to call “a working knowledge of God.”…They have simply apprehended that “there must be a God”…

Your appeal for the restoration of “the old time faith in a personal and known God” impels us to respond to your editorial by offering you the very faith for which you so earnestly contend. …We offer you the “old time” Faith which has been restored to the earth, with all the principles, gifts, powers and authority of ancient times. …And what more, we ask you candidly, and earnestly, to aid us in this revival of the “old time” Faith…that henceforth and forever may be lowered, both in and out of the churches, the countless thousands of altars erected to the “unknown God.” — Ben Erastus Rich (more…)

Mormon Doctrine, p. 363 “Mormonism is Christianity; Christianity is Mormonism; they are one and the same, and they are not to be distinguished from each other in the minutest detail … Mormons are true Christians; their worship is the pure, unadulterated Christianity authored by Christ and accepted by Peter, James, and John and all the ancient saints.” — Bruce R. Matthew 16:18 “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

As a brand new Christian who’d only been out of Mormonism for a week or two, a phrase used by the pastor got my immediate attention. Twenty-five years later I still recall how surprised I was hearing him refer to Christianity as ‘The True Church of Jesus Christ’.

Not long after that event, I was speaking at a church in my beloved Utah, and that pastor titled his talk as ‘Will the One True Church of Jesus Christ Please Stand Up?’.

The phrase they both used is the subject matter and title of our article; ‘The True Church of Jesus Christ’.

Today our inquiry is simple.

What is the true church of Jesus Christ? (more…)

This past weekend Kirk, and I had the opportunity to share our testimonies, and provide info on Mormonism at our church. (We’ll post pictures as soon as our daughter gets them to us!)

After the class, people shared stories as they usually do, of their own experience with Mormonism.

A common thread they spoke of was how people they knew who had joined suddenly became like strangers. I explained it has to do with the way Mormonism looks at Christianity.  (more…)

2 Timothy 3.16-17; “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”

You’ll want to keep the verse above in mind as we examine our Mormon reference. Today we’re looking at a sermon delivered by Mormonism’s 6th prophet, Joseph F. Smith. Here we go!

Journal of Discourses 12:327–328; “I am aware that the Gospel, as revealed in the Bible, cannot be found in the world; the ordinances of that Gospel are not administered in any church except the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
