LDS: Christians Rob Souls of Men

1 John 2:9 “He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.”
Today we’re looking at excerpts taken from a Mormon circular published in 1848 by LDS apostle, Orson Spencer.
While we’re not immune to coming across anti-Christian literature in Mormon propaganda, it was surprising to see an entire booklet dedicated to defaming Christianity. The booklet was written and printed for members living in Great Britain just four years after Joe, and Hyrum Smith were killed in Nauvoo, IL. Because of its sheer length, we’ve pulled a few quotes for examples. To read their entire circular, see link provided below.
Sadly, the Church’s attitude towards Christianity hasn’t changed. Proof of this is seen in their canon — 1 Nephi 14:10. (more…)

John Taylor: Christian Gospel is Perversion

Journal of Discourses 13:15-19; “Go to the Christians and they have one God, but he has neither body, parts, nor passions; his presence is everywhere, but he exists nowhere. They have never heard nor seen him, and they do not know anybody who ever did, not even their ministers, whom, they claim, are sent of God. They are equally as ignorant in relation to their own existence and the ends of their creation. They say they are going to Heaven, but all they can tell you about it is that it is beyond the bounds of time and space.
This kind of doctrine does not suit me…that which is called the Gospel in the Christian world is not the Gospel, but a perversion of it. When Jesus came he came to do away with the law and to introduce the Gospel that their fathers had lost because of transgression. … Why, these Christians, so called, cannot trust their God in anything.” – John Taylor, Salt Lake City, March 14, 1869

Over the past few weeks we’ve received a lot of e-mails and/or comments on our blog and site expressing disdain for the work we do at the ministry. Some have been nice, which is always great!
My response to rude comments is this –
Why should Christians stand by and listen to the comments without defending the work God gave us to do?

Journal of Discourses 5:331; “…Joseph B. Nobles once told a Methodist priest, after hearing him describe his god, that the god they worshipped was the “Mormons’” Devil—a being
without a body, whereas our God has a body, parts, and passions. The Devil was cursed and sent down from heaven. He has no body of his own; therefore he is constantly endeavoring to obtain possession of the tabernacles belonging to others…” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, October 7, 1857

Journal of Discourses 13:125; “Jesus made his appearance on the earth in the meridian of time, and he established his kingdom on the earth. But to fulfill ancient
prophecies the Lord suffered that kingdom to be uprooted; in other words, the kingdoms of this world made war against the kingdom of God, established eighteen centuries ago, and they prevailed against it, and the kingdom ceased to exist. The great beast that John saw made war with it and prevailed against it, and human institutions, without prophets or inspired men, usurped the place of the ancient kingdom of God.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, April 10, 1870

We receive a lot of e-mails and comments here at the ministry via private notes, and through our sites which more times than not, make me sad for the blindness many people have chosen to impair themselves with.
Having said that, every once in awhile we receive comments that immediately stop me in my tracks. The examples we’re listing below are just such a case. You see, for me personally you can say anything you want about me or the articles we produce and it’s like water off a duck’s back. When you malign the Lord or His word, you’ve taken it to another level that downright frightens me for your soul.

Improvement Era, Vol. 58, No. 7, July 1955, p. 494; “Shedding innocent blood is spoken of in the scriptures as consenting to the death of Jesus Christ and putting him to shame. For those who have had the witness of the Holy Ghost, fighting with wicked hate against his authorized servants is the same, for if this is done to them, it is also done against him. For men who have had the light of the Holy Ghost to turn away and fight the truth with murderous hate, and those who are authorized to proclaim it, there is no forgiveness in this world, neither in the world to come.” — Joseph Fielding Smith

Today we’re continuing our look at a speech given by George Q. Cannon when he systematically rejected God and what He’s done for us. The importance of this speech in the annals of Mormonism is important and shouldn’t be overlooked. It’s one of the many times the LDS Church has gone out of its way to slam Christianity, and the rejection of Christianity is clearly still intact today.

Looking around for a quote the other day proved to be an interesting experience as I came across a talk given by LDS apostle George Q. Cannon. Just like his counterparts who trick people, he blathered on with lies about the body of Christ and didn’t provide any evidence for his damning accusations.
Our dilemma today and for the next day or two is a multi-part series as we look at this talk to compare it with historical facts, but most of all the Bible.
