“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.” Psalm 19:7

March 3 — Divine Authority, or the question:  Was Joseph sent of God?, p. 3 “If the Latter-day Saints are not what they profess to be, one thing is certain, that no one ever will be able to confute their doctrine by the scriptures; however imperfect the people may be, their doctrine is infallible. Can this be said of any other people who have existed on the eastern hemisphere during the last 1700 years? No.” — Orson Pratt, 1848 (more…)

February 4 — Journal of Discourses 2:345-346 “This explains the mystery. If we should take a million of worlds like this and number their particles, we should find that there are more Gods than there are particles of matter in those worlds. But the attributes of Deity are one; and they constitute the one God that the Prophets speak of, and that the children of men in all worlds worship.

One world has a personal God or Father, and the inhabitants thereof worship the attributes of that God, another world has another, and they worship His attributes, and besides Him there is no other; and when they worship Him they are at the same time worshipping the same attributes that dwell in all the personal Gods who fill immensity”. – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, February 18, 1855

Twenty-five years earlier Joseph Smith didn’t agree in the BoM and said this… (more…)

The SeerThe Seer, “The Pre-existence of Man,” Vol. 1, No. 7, July, 1853, p. 98 “Spirits, though pure and innocent, before they entered the body, would become contaminated by entering a fallen tabernacle; not contaminated by their own sins, but by their connection with a body brought into the world by the fall, earthly, fallen, imperfect, and corrupt in its nature.  A spirit, having entered such a tabernacle, though it may commit no personal sin, is unfit to return again into the presence of a holy Being. . .” – Orson Pratt, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

November 3 — Journal of Discourses 14:242 “There are no marriages among spirits, no coupling together of the males and females among them; but when they rise from the grave after being tabernacled in mortal bodies, they have all the functions that are necessary to people worlds. As our Father and God begat us sons and daughters, so will we rise immortal males and females, and beget children and, in our turn, form and create worlds, and send forth our spirit children to inherit those worlds, the same as we were sent here, and thus will the works of God continue, and not only God himself, and His Son Jesus Christ have the power of endless lives, but all of His redeemed offspring.” — Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, August 20, 1871 (more…)

 November 2 — The Seer, p. 215 “Questions and Answers On Doctrine…

Q. What does the Lord require of the people of the United States?
A. He requires them to repent of all their sins and embrace the message of salvation, contained in the Book of Mormon, and be baptized into THIS church, and prepare themselves for the coming of the Lord.
Q. What will be the consequence if they do not embrace the Book of Mormon as a divine revelation?
A. They will be DESTROYED from the land and SENT DOWN TO HELL, like all other generations who have rejected a divine message!” – Apostle Orson Pratt (more…)

June 2 — LDS: Baptism is Mandatory. The Seer, p. 255 (1854) “Baptism is just as essential to salvation, as Faith and Repentance. — Without being immersed in water no man can enter into the fulness of Celestial glory… But who in this generation have authority to baptize?  Only the Latter-day Saints. Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the “whore of Babylon.” – Orson Pratt (more…)

March 13 — LDS Know Jesus’ Birth and Death Dates.  Journal of Discourses 13:127 “When we come to trace back all these authorities, we find that this very day, on which I am speaking, would be the close of the year, and that to-morrow, the 11th day of April, would be the anniversary of the very day on which Jesus was born; and the 6th day of April the very day on which he was crucified precisely eighteen hundred years prior to the organization of this Church.” — Orson Pratt, April 10, 1870. The Seer, p. 172 “…the great Messiah who was the founder of the Christian religion, was a polygamist…marrying many honorable wives himself…God the Father had a plurality of wives…the Son followed the example of his Father…both God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ inherit their wives in eternity as well as in time.” – Orson Pratt, 1857 (more…)

August 24 — Christians are Wicked Apostates, Murderers and Idolaters. The Seer, p. 205 “Q. After the Church of Christ fled from earth to heaven, what was left?

A set of wicked Apostates, murderers, and idolaters, who, after having made war with the saints, and overcome them, and destroyed them out of the earth, were left to follow the wicked imaginations of their own corrupt hearts, and to build up churches by human authority, and to follow after the cunning craftiness of uninspired men; having no Apostle, Prophet, or Revelator to inquire of God for them: and thus, because of wickedness, the Church, and Priesthood, and gifts, and ordinances and blessings of the everlasting Gospel, were taken from the earth, and reserved in heaven until the fulness of times, when it was predicted that they should again be restored among men to continue until the end should come.” – Orson Pratt (more…)

August 12 — Unmarried Women are Damned. Latter-day Prophets and the D&C, 4:392-393 “We cannot feel justified in closing this article on the subject of marriage without saying a few words to unmarried females in this Church.

You will clearly perceive, from the revelation which God has given, that you can never obtain a fulness of glory, without being married to a righteous man for time and for all eternity.” – Orson Pratt (See Conference Report October 1946 p. 36, where Joseph Fielding Smith is quoting Orson Pratt in reference above.)  June 27 — Trees and Veggies in Preexistence. Journal of Discourses 21:200-201 “We are also told in this inspired translation, that these living trees which we behold—for God has given life unto all things—had their spiritual existence in heaven before their temporal existence; every herb and every tree, before it was planted out on the earth, that is, the spiritual part of it, the life of it, that which, in other words, animates that which gives power to the vegetable to bring forth fruit after its likeness—the spiritual part existed in heaven.” — Orson Pratt, November 12th, 1879. June 20 — Was Jesus Married to Mary Magdalene? I’ve had countless Mormons tell me that Jesus was married. The missionaries at my front door not long ago were just the latest example in a long line of those telling me such a tale.

When I ask for biblical proof, they always refer to Mary Magdalene who saw Jesus at the tomb when He was resurrected. (more…)

Non-Mormon Kids are Illegitimate Mormon Dilemma 605

Journal of Discourses 17:145 “Now I want to say a few words to our young people who dwell in different part of the Territory. I have heard that some of them, perhaps through a want of understanding of the laws of God, have suffered themselves to be married by the civil law—for instance, by a justice of the peace, alderman or judge. That will do very well so far as the laws of the land are concerned, but has God anything to do with such marriages? Nothing at all. Has he ever authorized marriages to be solemnized after this order? Not at all. Are children born of such marriages your legal sons and daughters in the sight of heaven? Not at all; they are in one sense bastards.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, July 19, 1874
