“Is there a God beside me? Yea, there is no God; I know not any.” Isaiah 46:8

The Seer, p. 224 “God is a God of truth, and cannot lie without violating the great perfections and attributes of his nature, which if he should do, his power and glory would cease, and other Beings who are filled with all the fullness of his attributes, would succeed in his place. But God knowing all things, and loving righteousness and truth with a perfect love, it is impossible for him to violate the great unchangeable principles of his nature. (more…)

‘Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let thy glory be above all the earth.’ Psalm 57:5

The psalm above is also a beloved song for Christians worldwide. It evokes believers to stand while singing, and reflect with awe the wonders of God Almighty, and the Power He alone holds.

Today’s LDS reference is a reminder of how the Mormon god is fixated on one thing, and that’s sex.

There’s absolutely no excuse for what Mr. Pratt said in his book, ‘The Seer’, and must be regarded as the highest form of debauchery. While everyone is familiar with Pratt’s explanation that the body of Jesus required both a mother and father, we thought it imperative to look at the rest of what he said. (more…)

Journal of Discourses 13:125-126 “Jesus … established his kingdom on the earth…. the kingdoms of this world made war against the kingdom of God, established eighteen centuries ago, and they prevailed against it, and the kingdom ceased to exist. … This is what we believe; and it is the sincere belief and faith of the Latter-day Saints that we are in that kingdom. It is true that our King is now absent: he is in the heavens. But we expect him again; we look for him and he will come in his own due time… in organizing this kingdom He has restored all the essential characteristics of His kingdom in its embryo, or its beginning: such as inspired men, inspired prophets, inspired leaders, called by revelation to act in different positions.” — Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, April 10, 1870 (more…)

August 27 – Visions. Ezekiel 13:9 “And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.”

If this wasn’t such an important part of LDS theology, it’d hardly be worth the time to point out the discrepancy we found here. However, Mormonism’s foundation relies on the belief God needed Satan’s intervention to help carry out His plan…

Devil is Cause of Death

Journal of Discourses 1:281 “…He has permitted the destroyer to visit them, who has usurped a certain dominion and authority, carrying desolation and ruin on every hand; the perfections of the original organizations have ceased.” — Orson Pratt, Great Salt Lake, July 25, 1852 (more…)

“For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.” 1 Kings 14:23

The Seer, Vol. 1 and 2, pp. 23-24 “The Gods who dwell in the heavens from which our spirits came, are beings who have been redeemed from the grave in a world which existed before the foundation of this earth was laid.

These Gods being redeemed from the grave with their wives, are immortal and eternal, and will die no more, but they and their wives will be supremely happy. All the endearing ties of conjugal love, which existed in their bosoms when terrestial and fallen beings, are now greatly increased and perfected…” — LDS Apostle Orson Pratt, January 1853 (more…)

The Kingdom of God, Pt. 1, No. 2, p. 4 “The Godhead consists of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Father is a material being… The substance of his person occupies space the same as other matter. It has solidity, length, breadth, and thickness, like all other matter. The elementary materials of his body are not susceptible of occupying, at the same time, the same identical space with other matter. The substance of his person, like other matter, cannot be in two places at the same instant. It also requires time for him to transport himself from place to place. It matters not how great the velocity of his movements, time is an essential ingredient to all motion, whether rapid or slow.” – Orson Pratt, 1848 (more…)

The Seer, p. 85 “And in that day Adam blessed God, and was filled, and began to prophesy, concerning all the families of the earth: blessed be the name of God for my transgression, for in this life I shall have joy, and again in my flesh I shall see God.” — Orson Pratt, 1853 (more…)

February 8 – Trusting Wrong Translators. 2 Peter 1:20-21 “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (more…)

The Seer, p. 140 “By marrying an unbeliever you place yourselves in open disobedience to the command of God requiring His people to gather together. Do you expect to be saved in direct violation of the commands of Heaven? If not, keep yourselves wholly and entirely from the company of unbelievers. Do you wish the fellowship of the Saints? If you do, have no fellowship for unbelievers.

For after the great light which our Father in Heaven has given, none of the Saints will have any confidence in your honesty or sincerity, if you will recklessly throw yourselves away and cut off all hopes of your future exaltation. No female that has a respect for the work of God, or a respect for her future character among His people, will associate or keep company with any but Saints.” – Orson Pratt, October 1853 (more…)

The Seer, p. 140 “We cannot feel justified in closing this article on the subject of marriage without saying a few words to unmarried females in this church. You will clearly perceive from the revelation which God has given that you can never obtain a fulness of glory without being married to a righteous man for time and for all eternity. If you marry a man who receives not the gospel, you lay a foundation for sorrow in this world, besides losing the privilege of enjoying the society of a husband in eternity. You forfeit your right to an endless increase of immortal lives. And even the children which you may be favored with in this life will not be entrusted to your charge in eternity but you will be left in that world without a husband, without a family, without a kingdom—without any means of enlarging yourselves, being subject to the principalities and powers who are counted worthy of families, and kingdoms, and thrones, and the increase of dominions forever. To them you will be servants and angels— …” – Orson Pratt, October 1853 (more…)

Matthew 2:2 “Saying, where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.”

Today  we’re looking at a small portion of an important talk given by Orson Pratt, interspersed with a few questions. The reason this is important is because Mormons are still saying the same things today Mr. Pratt said 148 years ago. You can use this example when witnessing to Mormons as we approach the holidays!

Journal of Discourses 13:126-127 “It can be reasonably inferred, according to the revelations that we have in the Book of Mormon, that God organized His kingdom, precisely to a day, 1,800 years after the crucifixion. Of course we do not learn this directly from the Book of Mormon; but we learn enough there of data on which to found a calculation. (more…)

Journal of Discourses 12:340-341 “After they had come down into this valley by the command of the Lord they collected seeds and grain of every kind, and animals of almost every description, among which, no doubt, were the elephant and the curelom and the cumom, very huge animals that existed in those days, and after traveling and crossing, we suppose, the sea that was east of where the Tower of Babel stood, and traveling through the wilderness many days, with their flocks and herds, their grain and substance, they eventually came to the great Pacific ocean, on the eastern borders of China or somewhere in that region.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, Sunday, Dec. 27, 1868. ‘A double minded man is unstable in all his ways’. James 1:8

While strolling around on the list of classes available at BYU, I came across an interesting page, ‘History of the English Bible’.

This page listed several resources along with a short synopsis on the history of English Bibles produced by Wycliffe from the 14th century, to the latter 20th century publications of the NKJV (New King James Version), and even the NIV (New International Version).

There were also three other items of note on this page. (more…)

Journal of Discourses 12:338 “It was here where Enoch preached and published glad tidings of great joy; it was on this land—the American Continent—where he gathered the people from many nations, and built up a city and called it Zion. It was here where the people of God flourished before the flood, and were of one heart and one mind, having an experience of some three hundred and sixty-five years in order to bring about a sufficient degree of righteousness and faith to be taken away from here and translated to some other region.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, December 27, 1868

Hmmm…I don’t think so. Here’s what our Lord has to say about this! (more…)

The Seer, p.159 “One thing is certain, that there were several holy women that greatly loved Jesus –– such as Mary, and Martha her sister, and Mary Magdalene; and Jesus greatly loved them and associated with them much…now it would be very natural for a husband in the resurrection to appear first to his own dear wives, and afterwards show himself to his other friends. If all the acts of Jesus were written, we no doubt should learn that these beloved women were his wives.” – Orson Pratt, October 1853 (more…)

Journal of Discourses 2:285 “The Latter-day Saints that are now sitting before me, and those who inhabit this Territory, are here in fulfillment of prophecy. We inhabit these mountains because the ancient Prophets have predicted that such an event should take place, and we are fulfilling their predictions in this respect.

We believe in that sacred record called the Book of Mormon. Why? Because the ancient Prophets have predicted that such a book should be revealed in the latter times; and it has come… and we are the very people that are enjoying the fulfillment of those predictions.” – Orson Pratt, Great Salt Lake City, January 7, 1855 (more…)
