“Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.” Matthew 5:11

February 13 — Discourses of Brigham Young, p. 316 “If a child or relative of mine forsakes the Gospel, the holy Priesthood, his God, and the Kingdom of God, farewell to that child or relative, whether near or distant. I own none as relatives, only those who love and serve our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. All that belong to my Father’s house I own. I love them, I delight in their society, no matter whether they are poor or rich, learned or unlearned, if they observe the laws of the Kingdom of God and live according to it.” — January 19, 1862 (more…)

February 11 — New Witnesses For God, p. 456 “What a revelation is here! As I have remarked elsewhere, instead of the God-given power of pro-creation being one of the chief things that is to pass away, it is one of the chief means of man’s exaltation and glory in that great eternity, which like an endless vista stretches out before him!

Instead of the commandment, “Be fruitful, and multiply and replenish the earth,” being an unrighteous law, it is one by means of which the race of the Gods is perpetuated…” — B.H. Roberts, 1911 (more…)

February 10 — Enos 1:5-8 “And there came a voice unto me, saying: Enos, thy sins are forgiven thee, and thou shalt be blessed. 6 And I, Enos, knew that God could not lie; wherefore, my guilt was swept away. 7 And I said: Lord, how is it done? 8 And he said unto me: Because of thy faith in Christ, whom thou hast never before heard nor seen. And many years pass away before he shall manifest himself in the flesh; wherefore, go to, thy faith hath made thee whole.” — c. BC 421 (more…)

February 9 — Journal of Discourses 2:184 “The seed of Ham, which is the seed of Cain descending through Ham, will, according to the curse put upon him, serve his brethren, and be a “servant of servants” to his fellow-creatures, until God removes the curse…The conduct of the whites towards the slaves will…send both slave and master to hell…The blacks should be used like servants, and not like brutes, but they must serve. It is their privilege to live so as to enjoy many of the blessings which attend obedience to the first principles of the Gospel…” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, February 18, 1855 (more…)

February 7 — Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 341 “President Joseph Smith again arose and said—In relation to the power over the minds of mankind which I hold, I would say, It is in consequence of the power of truth in the doctrines which I have been an instrument in the hands of God of presenting unto them, and not because of any compulsion on my part.” (more…)

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” — Ephesians 2:8-9

February 6 — Doctrines of Salvation 2:37 “Now if we want to become heirs, joint-heirs with Jesus Christ, possessing the blessings of the kingdom, there is only one thing required of you and of me, and that is that we keep the whole law, not a part of it only.” — Joseph Fielding Smith, 10th LDS Prophet (more…)

February 5 — Doctrine and Covenants 132:16-17, 32 “Therefore, when they are out of the world they neither marry nor are given in marriage; but are appointed angels in heaven, which angels are ministering servants, to minister for those who are worthy of a far more, and an exceeding, and an eternal weight of glory. 17 For these angels did not abide my law; therefore, they cannot be enlarged, but remain separately and singly, without exaltation, in their saved condition, to all eternity; and from henceforth are not gods, but are angels of God forever and ever. 32 Go ye, therefore, and do the works of Abraham; enter ye into my law and ye shall be saved.” (more…)

February 4 — Journal of Discourses 2:345-346 “This explains the mystery. If we should take a million of worlds like this and number their particles, we should find that there are more Gods than there are particles of matter in those worlds. But the attributes of Deity are one; and they constitute the one God that the Prophets speak of, and that the children of men in all worlds worship.

One world has a personal God or Father, and the inhabitants thereof worship the attributes of that God, another world has another, and they worship His attributes, and besides Him there is no other; and when they worship Him they are at the same time worshipping the same attributes that dwell in all the personal Gods who fill immensity”. – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, February 18, 1855

Twenty-five years earlier Joseph Smith didn’t agree in the BoM and said this… (more…)

February 2 — Colossians 3:9 “Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds”.

_____

Our post today comes courtesy of an ex-Mormon, Carl, who’s training to become a pastor! PTL!

As he was looking over his copy of an 1830 Book of Mormon, he immediately realized the contradictions of what he’d been taught as a child growing up in Mormonism.

February 26 — What’s the Meaning of “Families are Forever”? Gospel Fundamentals, p. 177 “God made it possible for families to be together forever. He has given the leaders of His Church the authority to bind families together forever. This binding together is called sealing. This sealing can take place only in a temple. Temples are sacred buildings where only faithful members of the Church may go. When a man and woman are sealed in the temple by someone who holds the priesthood and has special power to seal, their marriage will not end when they die. Their marriage will last forever if they keep the promises they made in the temple. This is called eternal marriage. (more…)

February 25 — Sins Forgiven by Attending Sacrament Meetings. General Conference, ‘That We May Always Have His Spirit to Be with Us’, April 2006 “Through the ordinance of the sacrament we renew our baptismal covenant and can receive and retain a remission of our sins (see Mosiah 4:12, 26). In addition, we are reminded on a weekly basis of the promise that we may always have His Spirit to be with us. As we then strive to keep ourselves clean and unspotted from the world, we become worthy vessels in whom the Spirit of the Lord can always dwell.” — David Bednar (more…)

February 23 — Joseph Smith Completed Jesus’ Gospel. Liahona, ‘Joseph Smith—Prophet of the Restoration’, November 2009 “In many ways the gospel of Jesus Christ is like a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle. When Joseph Smith came on the scene, perhaps 100 pieces were in place. Then Joseph Smith came along and put many of the other 900 pieces in place so that people could say, ‘Oh, now I understand where I came from, why I am here, and where I am going.’ As for Joseph Smith’s role in the Restoration, the Lord defined it clearly: ‘This generation shall have my word through you’ (D&C 5:10).” — Tad R. Callister (more…)

February 22 — LDS: Miracle of the Holy Bible. General Conference, ‘The Miracle of the Holy Bible’, April 2007 “It is a miracle that we have the Bible’s powerful doctrine, principles, poetry, and stories. But most of all, it is a wonderful miracle that we have the account of the life, ministry, and words of Jesus, which was protected through the Dark Ages …
“The Holy Bible is well named. It is holy because it teaches truth, holy because it warms us with its spirit, holy because it teaches us to know God and understand His dealings with men, and holy because it testifies throughout its pages of the Lord Jesus Christ.” — M. Russell Ballard (more…)
