November 13 – Twisting Scripture for Personal Gain. Hebrews 7:1-4; ‘For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually. Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.’

‘They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.’ Titus 1:16
Joseph Smith: The Choice Seer, Parting the Veil, Part III “…no one has been permitted to pen more of what his ancient counterparts saw and add to what they were shown than the Prophet Joseph Smith. We know of no man in the earth’s history who has done more to extend the faith and expand the mind of mortal men than Joseph the Prophet-whose very name means “he who gathers” and “let him add.” – Joseph Fielding McConkie (more…)

October 29 –– He would ascend into heaven. Dan. 7:13-14a; “I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. 14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom…”
Acts 1:9-11; “And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” (more…)

September 20 – John 7:14-17; “Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned? Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.” (more…)

Answers: Straightforward Answers to Tough Gospel Questions, pp. 215 – 216; “There is an important point in all of this, Elder,” I said. “Never let anyone outside the Church tell you what the Church teaches. You were sent out to teach, not to be taught (see D&C 43:15). The doctrines of the Church will always come to you through the channels that the Lord ordained, and the Lord didn’t ordain anti-Mormon literature as one of those channels.” – Joseph Fielding McConkie

June 16 – Exalting Oneself. Isaiah 14:13-14; “For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.”
Jesus Became Redeemer Only by Submitting to Demons

Doctrinal Commentary on the Book of Mormon, 4 vols. [Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1987-1992], 1:234; “…Christ’s rise to the throne of exaltation was preceded by his descent below all things. Only by submitting to the powers of demons and death and hell could he, in the resurrection, serve as our exemplar of a saved being, one who had placed all things beneath his feet. “I am Alpha and Omega,” he said, “Christ the Lord; yea, even I am he, the beginning and the end, the Redeemer of the world. I, having accomplished and finished the will of him whose I am, even the Father, concerning me- having done this that I might subdue all things unto myself- retaining all power, even to the destroying of Satan and his works at the end of the world, and the last great day of judgment.” (D&C 19:1-2.)” – Joseph Fielding McConkie and Robert L. Bible Promises Not Meant for Us Today

Joseph Smith: The Choice Seer, Chapter 25; “Revelation, the Prophet taught, was to be immediate and personal. We have no right, he explained, to lay claim to promises made to another people in another time. As their curses are not our curses, so their promises are not our promises (see Ibid., p. 12). “Reading the experience of others, or the revelations given to them, can never give us a comprehensive view of our condition and true relation to God. Knowledge of these things can only be obtained by experience through the ordinances of God set forth for that purpose. Could you gaze into heaven five minutes, you would know more than you would by reading all that ever was written on the subject.” (Ibid., p. 324; emphasis in original.)” – Joseph Fielding McConkie, Also see Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 324

Seeking the Spirit, p 88; “In our day three fundamental truths are essential to a valid testimony: first, that Jesus is the Christ; second, that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God; and third, that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the only true and living church on the face of the whole earth. All valid testimony must embrace the spiritual witness that Jesus is the Christ, for “there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God.” (2 Nephi 31:21.)”. – Joseph Fielding McConkie

Joseph F. Smith, comp. Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Co., 1976., p. 167). The title is incorrectly thought by the sectarian world to refer to God.” – Joseph Fielding McConkie
