Mormon Decisions 10Looking around for a quote the other day proved to be an interesting experience as I came across a talk given by LDS apostle George Q. Cannon. Just like his counterparts who trick people, he blathered on with lies about the body of Christ and didn’t provide any evidence for his damning accusations.

Our dilemma today and for the next day or two is a multi-part series as we look at this talk to compare it with historical facts, but most of all the Bible.

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 23:343-344; “The God whom the “Christians” worship is a being of their own creation–if, indeed, there can be such a being as they describe him to be; they have formed certain notions concerning deity, and then they have formulated those notions into articles of faith or religion.” –  Charles W. Penrose, Salt Lake City, January 14, 1883

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 3:291;
“Of all men upon the face of the earth, we are the most favoured; we have the fulness of the everlasting Gospel, the keys of revelation and exaltation, the privilege of making our own rules and regulations, and are not opposed by anybody. No king, prince, potentate, or dominion, has rightful authority to crush and oppress us. We breathe the free air, we have the best looking men and handsomest women, and if they envy us our position, well they may, for they are a poor, narrow-minded, pinch‑backed race of men, who chain themselves down to the law of monogamy, and live all their days under the dominion of one wife. They ought to be ashamed of such conduct, and the still fouler channel which flows from their practices; and it is not to be wondered at that they should envy those who so much better understand the social relations.” – George A. Smith, Salt Lake City, April 6, 1856

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 5:110; “I have heretofore said but very little about the Gentiles; but I have heard all that Drummond has said, and I have read all his lying, infamous letters; and although I have said but little, I think a heap. You must know that I love my friends, and God Almighty knows that I do hate my enemies.” – George A. Smith, Salt Lake City, August 2, 1857

crosses 3As I mentioned last week Melissa and I are organizing the daily dilemmas we post and I’m trying to ‘fix’ the nightmare I’ve created. If I ever do this again I give everyone permission to nag at me.

Today while working on this monstrosity I came across an interesting situation. The sheer amount of dilemmas for one of the subject matters stuck out like a red flag so I thought I’d share what I discovered. I’ve categorized all the topics from A to Z and in the category of ‘Christians’ I noticed just how much the Church disapproves of Christians and Christianity.

Mormon Decisions 10There’s been a lot of back and forth arguments going on in the past several weeks between Glenn Beck and numerous Christian conservative organizations.  From Ed Decker with Saints Alive to The Blaze (conservative news portal), many have openly questioned the motives of Liberty University when they invited a Mormon to give the commencement speech for the graduating class of 2014.

Mormon Decisions 10Conference Report, Second Day Morning Session, October 1916: p 42-43; “Christianity, as it is known in the world today, has fallen far short of the accomplishment of what might have been expected of it. It has failed in establishing those principles which Christ taught among the children of men… A false doctrine is a corrupt doctrine; a false religion is a corrupt religion; a false teacher is a corrupt teacher. Any man who teaches a false doctrine, who believes in and practices and teaches a false religion is a corrupt professor, because he teaches that which is impure and not true. That is the trouble with Christianity today. It is not true…that which is known as Christianity, is the falsest of all religions in the world.” – Hyrum M. Smith

Mormon Decisions 10The Essential Orson Pratt, p 151; “Afterwards a set of cunning wicked impostors, under the name of Protestant ministers, make their appearance, who finding themselves entirely destitute of the spirit of prophecy, of visions, of revelation, and of every other power and gift which always characterised the ministers of Christ, have endeavoured to invent some cunning, crafty arguments, to hide from the people their powerless, apostate condition, and make their deluded followers think that they are really genuine ministers of Christ.
