Mormon Doctrine, pp. 314-315 (1958) “Harlots. See Church of the Devil, Sex Immorality. Literally an harlot is a prostitute; figuratively it is any apostate church. Nephi, speaking of harlots in the literal sense and while giving a prophetic description of the Catholic Church, recorded that he ‘saw the devil that he was the foundation of it.’ … Then speaking of harlots in the figurative sense, he designated the Catholic Church as ‘the mother of harlots’ (1 Nephi 13:34; 14:15-17), a title which means that the protestant churches, the harlot daughters which broke off from the great and abominable church, would themselves be apostate churches.” – Bruce R. McConkie [emp. added]

Characteristics of True Christianity

If you run a search on the internet for the characteristics of true Christianity, you’ll find a plethora of opinions! One recurring theme I kept seeing is a list of four main characteristics the majority of the body of Christ agrees upon, thus identifying them as a traditional (‘orthodox’) Christian.
It should come as no surprise the LDS Church has rejected all four. Its adherents quickly adopted Joseph Smith’s dogma without the blink of an eye, and regrettably, have done so ever since. Here are the four characteristics –
The Mormon’s View of Christians

As I mentioned last week Melissa and I are organizing the daily dilemmas we post and I’m trying to ‘fix’ the nightmare I’ve created. If I ever do this again I give everyone permission to nag at me.
Today while working on this monstrosity I came across an interesting situation. The sheer amount of dilemmas for one of the subject matters stuck out like a red flag so I thought I’d share what I discovered. I’ve categorized all the topics from A to Z and in the category of ‘Christians’ I noticed just how much the Church disapproves of Christians and Christianity.

I’m becoming quite fond of a website called The Domain for Truth as of late. I’ve only visited it a few times, but find that each time I do I lose track of time while reading thought provoking articles.
This time around I checked out the article on their front page called “Presupposed Pain, the Preeminence of God in the Persecution of Jan Hus”. I highly recommend and urge all Christians to read this, but especially Mormons.
Paid Ministry

In our ongoing look at how the Mormon Church views Christianity we wanted to look at the way they think about Christian tithes and some of the comments Mormon leaders have made about the paid clergy, ministries and missionaries in the body of Christ. As you’ll see in the quotes listed at the end of this article, the Mormon’s disdain for anyone who proclaims the name of Christ is clearly seen in their disparaging remarks.
