Doctrine and Covenants 84:86, 91 “Therefore, let no man among you, for this commandment is unto all the faithful who are called of God in the church unto the ministry, from this hour take purse or scrip, that goeth forth to proclaim this gospel of the kingdom. 91 And he that doeth not these things is not my disciple; by this you may know my disciples.” — 1832 (more…)

The other day I came across a video on YouTube of a Christian Pastor interviewing two Mormon missionaries. He asked them many questions about some of the core, deeper doctrines of Mormonism, and was told things that you probably won’t hear from the missionaries when they come to your door. Throughout the interview, the missionaries were very polite and cordial and seemed to do their best to answer the questions he asked them.

I’d like to go through some of the questions and content of the interview. I’ll make sure to link the video along with time stamps of where the question was asked so you can hear their answers for yourself.

(Just a reminder before you watch the video, anytime a Mormon uses the phrase “the gospel of Jesus Christ” they are referring to the Mormon gospel, not the biblical gospel.) (more…)

Mormon Decisions 10Salt Lake Tribune, March 8, 2015; “The LDS Church expects to have more missionaries than ever in its global proselytizing force by 2019, according to a top Mormon leader.

“We’re projecting out probably within four years,” apostle Jeffrey R. Holland told a radio interviewer, “the base-line number for the missionary force will be something around 100,000.” – Peggy Fletcher Stack

mormon_missionariesYesterday I made a comment if the missionaries knocked on my door today I’d ask them about D&C 27:11 that’s still cemented in LDS canon.  Well guess what?

As I was putzin’ around the house this evening a knock at the door told me I wouldn’t be doing that for much longer…

Edward Stevenson

May 1, 1820 – January 27, 1897

Early Mormon PolygamistsUntil a month or so ago I had never heard of Edward Stevenson.  I obviously knew about the MTC (Missionary Training Center), but had no idea one of the buildings on BYU’s campus was named in his honor or what significance this man’s name surely holds for everyone whose shadow has crossed the doorway.

Missionary Obligations

Mormon Decisions 10Church News, October 9, 1983; “Every young man should serve a mission. It is not an option; it is your obligation.” – Spencer W. Kimball

Matthew 28:18-20; “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 ¶ Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

pulpitIn our ongoing look at how the Mormon Church views Christianity we wanted to look at the way they think about Christian tithes and some of the comments Mormon leaders have made about the paid clergy, ministries and missionaries in the body of Christ.  As you’ll see in the quotes listed at the end of this article, the Mormon’s disdain for anyone who proclaims the name of Christ is clearly seen in their disparaging remarks.

Preference to Convert the Devil over Jews

Journal of Discourses 2:143; “Brother Ballantyne, and many of our brethren in distant lands write, “O, how we would rejoice to have the privilege of visiting our mountain home!” I would rather undertake to convert five thousand Lamanites, than to convert one of those poor miserable creatures whose fathers killed the Savior, and who say, “Amen to the deed,” to this day. Yea, I would rather undertake to convert the devil himself, if it were possible.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, December 3, 1854

Offended

“And Nothing Shall Offend Them,” Ensign, Nov. 2006, 90; “Endowed with agency, you and I are agents, and we primarily are to act and not just be acted upon. To believe that someone or something can make us feel offended, angry, hurt, or bitter diminishes our moral agency and transforms us into objects to be acted upon. As agents, however, you and I have the power to act and to choose how we will respond to an offensive or hurtful situation.” – David Bednar

Missionaries

Journal of Discourses 7:227; “We have at times sent men on missions to get rid of them; but they have generally come back. Some think it is an imposition upon the world to send such men among them. But which is best—to keep them here to pollute others, or to send them where pollution is more prevalent?…We have tried to turn the filthy ones out of the flock, but they will not always stay out. A few such defile, to outward appearance, the whole flock; and we have it to bear.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, April 7, 1860

The other day I read an article in my local paper about the impact Romney’s run for the White House is having on the general public, and Mormonism itself. The article interviewed two Mormon missionaries serving in the church I attended as a Mormon. The article confirms the concern many Christians have had from the moment Romney started to gain momentum in the race and as he gets closer to being the GOP nominee their concerns aren’t without merit.

UGANDA: Beware; the Mormons are Lying to You!!

I came across an article in the New York Times today written by Josh Kron which I found to be very enlightening indeed.  I thank Mr. Kron for his well written article that gave fantastic insight to the daily life for a Mormon missionary and I highly recommend you take a few minutes of your day to read it for yourself.
