Journal of Discourses 5:110; “I have heretofore said but very little about the Gentiles; but I have heard all that Drummond has said, and I have read all his lying, infamous letters; and although I have said but little, I think a heap. You must know that I love my friends, and God Almighty knows that I do hate my enemies.” – George A. Smith, Salt Lake City, August 2, 1857
1 John 3:15; “Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.”
I just had a conversation not long ago with a new ex-Mormon Christian about the behavior of many Mormons.
While I was Mormon I remember the hatred I held deep in my heart for anyone who wasn’t Mormon. It didn’t matter that I disagreed with the majority of LDS doctrine and it didn’t matter if you were a ‘jack-Mormon’ (aka inactive), rather, all that mattered is if you were Mormon or non-Mormon.
The person I was speaking with held the same views when she was Mormon as well which tells me I obviously wasn’t alone…unfortunately .
What fuels such hatred towards others? Well, we know it isn’t the Lord, so that leaves us only one other option; Satan.
If someone could hate like Mr. Smith did and that included me at one time, who’s to say that person won’t turn on his friends?
How do you trust someone with that much hate in his/her heart?
The only cure to eradicate such a diseased heart is Jesus! I know that if He healed my heart and took away that hate He will do it for anyone!
