“He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” Matthew 28:6

Have you ever wondered what part/parts, of the Bible Mormons would need to toss if Joe Smith’s claims were true? According to his theory the entire world had abandoned the One True God of the Bible. We see the claim of a fourteen year old kid in the following declaration –

Joseph Smith-History: 1:18-19 “My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. … 19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me…””

Before we take Smith’s word for this shocking turn of Christian events, consider the following statements of Jesus. The first one listed below has always been of great comfort to all Christians. Smith’s claim would mean Jesus didn’t pray for us —

John 17:20 “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word.” (more…)

Doctrines of Salvation I:188 “If Joseph’s claims and declarations were built upon fraud and deceit, there would appear many errors and contradictions, which would be easy to detect. The doctrines of false teachers will not stand the test when tried by the accepted standards of measurement, the scriptures.”  — Joseph Fielding Smith (more…)

Journal of Discourses 2:165 “I wish the lawyer who says we have no powers in Nauvoo may be choked to death with his own words. Don’t employ lawyers, or pay them money for their knowledge, for I have learnt they don’t know anything. I know more than they all.” — Joseph Smith, Nauvoo, IL,  June 20, 1843 (more…)

October 24 –– Jesus, not Joseph, is God’s Tender Shoot. Ezekiel 17:22-24; “Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent: 23 In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell. 24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it.”

Luke 3:23-31; “And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli, 24 Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph …31 Which was the son of Melea, which was the son of Menan, which was the son of Mattatha, which was the son of Nathan, which was the son of David”. Today we’re looking at information the Church has supplied to their youth who attend LDS Seminary. The kids involved (9th –12th grade) are basically 14-18 years old.

Check out what it says in their ‘Doctrine and Covenants, and Church History’ Manual.

Nauvoo Expositor, June 7, 1844 “We would ask him on the other hand, if the overthrow of the Church was not inevitable, to which he often replied, that we would all go to Hell together, and convert it into a heaven, by casting the Devil out; and says he, Hell is by no means the place this world of fools suppose it to be, but on the contrary, it is quite an agreeable place: to which we would now reply, he can enjoy it if he is determined not to desist from his evil ways; but as for us, and ours, we will serve the Lord our God!” (more…)

Journal of Discourses 2:44 “Who revealed to him [Joseph Smith] the plan of redemption, and of exaltation for the dead who had died without the Gospel? and the keys and preparations necessary for holy and perpetual converse with Jesus Christ, and with the spirits of just men made perfect, and with the general assembly and Church of the first-born, in the holy of holies? Those from the dead!” – Parley Parker Pratt, Great Salt Lake City, April 6, 1853

In their routine fashion of diverting attention via means of confusion, the Church tweaked what it plagiarized from the prophet Isaiah.

The Church’s message on the importance of baptism has been stretched to its limit. They’ve made their canon so confusing, it’s difficult to determine which is worse – lying about the Israelites practice of baptism in the BC era (which they didn’t do), or retro-engineering what Joe Smith plagiarized from Isaiah’s prophecy.

Let’s sort this out to you can lovingly share this with the Mormon you know, and give demonstrative evidence of why their canon was written to confuse them.

Here’s what the original Book of Mormon said –

1830 Book of Mormon, p. 52; “Hearken and hear this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the Lord . . .” [emp. mine]

Luke 1:16-17; “And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God. 17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

1 Thessalonians 5:21 “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”

I’ve always been fascinated at how the word of the Lord provides just the right verse, or passage needed for any given situation. Today’s example is case in point! It’s important, beloved, to show the dear Mormon why their canon is flawed. Equally important is the method of how we’re to share this important info.

There’s a passage in the BoM you can lovingly share with a Mormon showing why their canon wasn’t inspired of God. There’s simply no way events in Helaman took place and were repeated in the 19th century in Joe Smith’s backyard.

Matthew 24:23-24; “Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. 24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”

In the ‘70’s members of the LDS Church were fed a steady diet of faith promoting idioms that were to be kept at the forefront of their memory banks. One of those promoted at that time was ‘lengthen your stride’, which meant ‘go on a mission’, and the other still alive and well in my personal memory bank: only Mormons were the ‘elect’ of God.

The idea was facilitated to boost a Mormon’s feelings of camaraderie amongst other Mormons, or so I was told. The downside? It served to instill a superiority complex. For many who leave the Church, the sudden reality of who they thought they were, and the Church’s history, is rather stark.

One of the startling realities is discovering all the unanswered prophecies proclaimed by none other than Joe Smith.

When Joe Smith and Oliver Cowdery finished translating their script in June 1829, the long list of messes they made would keep people busy for centuries to come. Case in point, us, and our subject matter today.

Did you know that Smith never did have a translation for the following five words in the BoM?

D&C 20:77, 79; “O God, the Eternal Father, we ask thee in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, to bless and sanctify this bread to the souls of all those who partake of it, that they may eat in remembrance of the body of thy Son, and witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they are willing to take upon them the name of thy Son, and always remember him and keep his commandments which he has given them; that they may always have his Spirit to be with them.
