September 7 – What’s a Mormon to believe with major contradictions between BoM, and Doctrine and Covenants? Matthew 12:31; “Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.”

The middle of August 2017 has proven to be a busy one for the LDS Church. They released three official statements on two topics, each with a track record of raising eyebrows because of church policy.

The odd thing about all of their statements is how none provided a picture of true Mormonism. At times it seems with each new lie they tell my heart grieves like never before. I so want them to know the Jesus I met in the Bible.

From the top of their self-imposed pyramid, on down to the everyday member like my mother, I pray they’ll want to truly know Him. Without any question, we’re also praying members will see what’s going on inside of Mormonism. I know this can happen – I’m living proof, as are millions of other ex-Mormons who now call on the One True God! 2 Chronicles 7:14

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Articles of Faith, pp. 287-288; “. . .If we compare the historical, prophetical, and doctrinal parts of the Book of Mormon with the great truths of science and nature, we find no contradictions–no absurdities–nothing unreasonable.” – James Talmage

Mosiah 5:15; “Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you his, that you may be brought to heaven, that ye may have everlasting salvation and eternal life, through the wisdom, and power, and justice, and mercy of him who created all things, in heaven and in earth, who is God above all. Amen.”

Doctrine and Covenants 24:1; “Behold, thou wast called and chosen to write the Book of Mormon, and to my ministry; and I have lifted thee up out of thine afflictions, and have counseled thee, that thou hast been delivered from all thine enemies, and thou hast been delivered from the powers of Satan and from darkness!” [emp. mine]

Mormon Decisions 10Ensign, ‘The Lost 500 Years: From Malachi to John the Baptist,’ December 2014; “Most of the scrolls are severely fragmented because of age and exposure to the elements, but scholars have been able to glean a wealth of information about the scribal practices. The scribes’ careful and meticulous work indicates a high level of professionalism and competence as they copied and transmitted sacred texts from one generation to the next. Those of us who love and appreciate the holy scriptures owe a great debt to these scribes for their careful work.

Mormon Decisions 10A Ministry of Meetings: The Apostolic Diaries of Rudger Clawson [p. 128] “[Saturday, 30 December 1899]…The principal topic of discussion was the attitude of the brethren when arrested and found guilty of unlawful cohabitation. Would it be proper for them to promise to obey the law—or rather express their intention to do so?

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 12:342; “After the destruction of the Jaredites, the Lord brought two other colonies to people this land. One colony landed a few hundred miles north of the Isthmus on the western coast; the other landed on the coast of Chili, upwards of two thousand miles south of them. The latter were called the Nephites and Lamanites. It was some four or five centuries after these two colonies came from Jerusalem and occupied the country before they amalgamated. A little over one century before Christ the Nephites united with the Zarahemlaites in the northern portions of South America, and were called Nephites and became a powerful nation.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, December 27, 1868

salt lake mormon temple 2Juvenile Instructor, Vol. 3, No. 21, November 1, 1868, pg 165; “We do not believe in the permanency of a race descended from people so wide apart as the Anglo-Saxon and Negro. In fact we believe it to be a great sin in the eyes of our Heavenly Father for a white person to marry a black one. And further, that it is a proof of the mercy of God that no such race appear to be able to continue for many generations.”

stickman thinking 3If you’ve ever hung around Mormons you might have heard them say something like it doesn’t affect our salvation, or it’s not necessary for our salvation. It’s a saying I heard a lot when I attended Sunday school, Relief Society or anytime someone had had one of those questions a teacher or church leader chose not to answer.

Maybe they didn’t have an answer, didn’t want to get side-tracked from the lesson, or maybe in the back of their minds they feared the answer. Going deeper into the scriptures and doctrines of the church to discover the answers could unearth a whole mess of questions, feelings and doubts the faithful Mormon doesn’t what to think about.

How was Earth Created?

salt lake mormon temple 2Jacob 4:9; “For behold, by the power of his word man came upon the face of the earth, which earth was created by the power of his word. Wherefore, if God being able to speak and the world was, and to speak and man was created, O then, why not able to command the earth, or the workmanship of his hands upon the face of it, according to his will and pleasure?”

salt lake mormon temple 2In the early days of Mormonism Joseph Smith taught and members were firm believers that Jehovah was none other than God the Father. As time waned on, the theory of Jesus being Jehovah in the Old Testament took hold in the early twentieth century.

The following is from a written prayer of Harvey Whitlock who was asking to be readmitted into the Church. Smith approved his reinstatement and the prayer. Notice how he refers to Jehovah. It was November 15, 1835.

salt lake mormon temple 212th Article of Faith; “We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.” – March 1, 1842

On August 4, 1842 the Church made yet another public denial that apostate Mormon converts were spreading lies.

Contradictions about Tithing in Mormon Scripture

Mormon 8:32; “Yea, it shall come in a day when there shall be churches built up that shall say: Come unto me, and for your money you shall be forgiven of your sins.”

D&C 64:23; “Behold, now it is called today until the coming of the Son of Man, and verily it is a day of sacrifice, and a day for the tithing of my people; for he that is tithed shall not be burned at his coming.”

Why is it okay for the LDS Church to issue edicts that tithing must be paid or else and at the same time condemn others?

Furthermore, why do Mormon scriptures contradict themselves?

salt lake mormon temple 2Mormon Doctrine pg 65; “Because of the atonement and by obedience to gospel law men have power to become the sons of God in that they are spiritually begotten of God and adopted as members of his family.
