“Lying for the Lord” about Polygamy
12th Article of Faith; “We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.” – March 1, 1842
On August 4, 1842 the Church made yet another public denial that apostate Mormon converts were spreading lies.
“But, for the information of those who might be assailed by those foolish tales about two wives, we would say that no such principle ever existed among the Latter-Day Saints, and ever will; this is well known to all who are acquainted with our books and actions.” Millennial Star, Vol. 3, No. 4, August 4, 1842, pg 73
At the time Smith made this declaration he had just married his 22nd wife, Martina McBride and polygamy was indeed, against the law.
In addition to the denial by Smith noted above, every member of the Relief Society leadership signed their name and lied right along with Smith & others in the male leadership.
So they lied to the public about practicing polygamy.
They also lied in the Millennial Star article noted above when they said a woman from Manchester, England was telling lies about their polygamous behavior.
And finally, they lied in the 12th Article of Faith stating they believe in obeying, honoring and sustaining the law.
Is this the model of Christ-like behavior?
Hey Michelle, I don’t know how I ended up here, now I know Joesph Smith had A LOT of wives, but I don’t think Martina McBride was one of them. I think it’s Martha 😁 anyway, you don’t have to post this👍
thanks for the heads up!!! I’ll be fixing that by the end of the day! 🙂
