Journal of Discourses 21:72-73 “The Lord is the same yesterday, today and forever. This is the cornerstone, it may be said, of our faith. It is upon this foundation we have built…he is today as he was yesterday and as he ever was, and that he will continue to be the same being as long as time endures or eternity continues.” – George Q. Canon, Salt Lake City, October 5th, 1879 (more…)

Today’s topic comes courtesy of Lee Baker – yay! Thanks Lee!

Yesterday I received an e-mail from Lee and Kathy stating they were meeting with a college student who was on the 2nd week of the Missionary Lesson Plan. They sent the note asking if I’d look over the list of Book of Mormon scriptures pointing out that God is eternal and Triune.

It was an awesome list we’ll be sharing in the next few days.

One thing Lee and Kathy asked in the paper they sent is our question for today.

Articles of Faith, pp. 287-288; “. . .If we compare the historical, prophetical, and doctrinal parts of the Book of Mormon with the great truths of science and nature, we find no contradictions–no absurdities–nothing unreasonable.” – James Talmage

Mosiah 5:15; “Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you his, that you may be brought to heaven, that ye may have everlasting salvation and eternal life, through the wisdom, and power, and justice, and mercy of him who created all things, in heaven and in earth, who is God above all. John 17:11; 20:17; “And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee.  Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.  Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.”

Question mark 2This week’s poll question is mainly for those of the Mormon faith, but if you’re not a Mormon we’d love to hear your opinion as well because it provides Mormons with insight about Christianity!

We want to know if you believe Heavenly Father was a sinner prior to earning his godhood?

teachings-presidents-joseph-fielding-smithEvery Sunday Mormons attend a three hour block of meetings consisting of three separate classes/meetings.  Those three hour blocks include a Relief Society or Priesthood Meeting, Sunday school and Sacrament Meeting, (their form of a worship service).

And every year the Church switches out what is being taught in the Relief Society or Priesthood meetings as well as the Sunday school classes.  The Church dictates what is taught and doesn’t allow any teaching from outside resources to be used whatsoever. Teachers are mandated to only use authorized material supplied by the Church, meaning no history books, no newspapers, internet, et al.

God the “Great Spirit”

salt lake mormon temple 2Alma 22:9-11; “And the king said: Is God that Great Spirit that brought our fathers out of the land of Jerusalem? 10 And Aaron said unto him: Yea, he is that Great Spirit, and he created all things both in heaven and in earth. Believest thou this? 11 And he said: Yea, I believe that the Great Spirit created all things, and I desire that ye should tell me concerning all these things, and I will believe thy words.”

Why does Alma disagree with Joseph Smith?

March 20 – Ex. 12:9 says; “Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it”.

_____

God was rather clear when He told the Israelites not to eat raw meat, but in the Book of Mormon this isn’t a problem with their god.  Ask them why this would be so.

_____

1 Nephi 17:2;  “And so great were the blessings of the Lord upon us, that while we did live upon raw meat in the wilderness, our women did give plenty of suck for their children, and were strong, yea, even like unto the men; and they began to bear their journeyings without murmurings”.

November 21 – Jude 1:24-25; “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.”

_____

We all have our own favorite scriptures that we lean on for our strength when nothing else better could be said.  These two in Jude are some of my personal favorites.  Thank You Jesus for Your words, Your comfort, the salvation You gave to me and separating me from the LDS Church.  Thank You for forgiving me when I believed the atrocities spoken here by Joseph Smith.

Ask the Mormon in your life what they think of Joseph Smith stating that he is their god.  From what he said, it is clear they are not worshipping the One and Only True God of the Bible.

_____

“God is not willing to let me gratify you; but I must teach the Elders, and they should teach you. God made Aaron to be the mouthpiece for the children of Israel, and He will make me be god to you in His stead, and the Elders to be mouth for me; and if you don’t like it, you must lump it. (April 8, 1844.).”  Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 363.
