Moroni or Nephi, Who Visited Joseph that Night?

Introductory page of D&C 1976, 3rd paragraph “This took place in the early spring of 1820. In September, 1823, and at later times, Joseph Smith received visitations from Moroni, an angel of light, who revealed the resting place of the ancient record from which The Book of Mormon was afterward translated.”

Helaman 7:10-11 “And behold, now it came to pass that it was upon a tower, which was in the garden of Nephi, which was by the highway which led to the chief market, which was in the city of Zarahemla; therefore, Nephi had bowed himself upon the tower which was in his garden, which tower was also near unto the garden gate by which led the highway. 11 And it came to pass that there were certain men passing by and saw Nephi as he was pouring out his soul unto God upon the tower; and they ran and told the people what they had seen, and the people came together in multitudes that they might know the cause of so great mourning for the wickedness of the people.” (more…)

God’s word makes things pretty clear. In the 10th year of King Zedekiah’s reign, Jeremiah was thrown into prison as Jerusalem fell in the Babylonian takeover ~

Jeremiah 32:1-2 “The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar. 2 For then the king of Babylon’s army besieged Jerusalem: and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which was in the king of Judah’s house.” [emp. added]

According to historical records, the 1st year of Zedekiah’s reign took place in bc 598-597. His reign ended with the fall of Jerusalem which has been documented c. bc 587-586.

This historical fact isn’t a problem, unless of course you’re reading history from an aberrant storyline such as Joe Smith’s inspired works. Check out the mass confusion found in the opening scenes of their signature canon, the Book of Mormon.

The following claim tells us when Lehi supposedly packed up his family and left Jerusalem…. (more…)

Is this a work of God, or man?

February 9 – God’s Word is full of examples on how we can recognize the evil one.  In 2 Cor. 11:14 Paul says; “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light”.

Jude 4; “For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Original drawing of the angel Moroni intended to be used over Nauvoo Temple.

By and large, members of the LDS Church today believe Moroni was the angel who showed up one night telling Joseph Smith about the golden plates buried in the earth near his home.

“He called me by name and said…that his name was Moroni…”

Today when members read Joseph Smith’s History in the Pearl of Great Price, Doctrine and Covenants 128:20, the narrative tells them Moroni visited Joseph Smith. They also read the same thing in History of the Church 1:11. See image.

Liahona 1 Nephi 16:28-29; “And it came to pass that I, Nephi, beheld the pointers which were in the ball, that they did work according to the faith and diligence and heed which we did give unto them. 29 And there was also written upon them a new writing, which was plain to be read, which did give us understanding concerning the ways of the Lord; and it was written and changed from time to time, according to the faith and diligence which we gave unto it. And thus we see that by small means the Lord can bring about great things.”

May 11 – How do you cite your mind forward to something already past? Heb. 7:24, 27-28; “But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.”

moroni-2016Why Did Moroni Deliver the Gold Plates on September 22?

By Book of Mormon Central | Sep. 22, 2016 Mormon Life

“…Moroni’s annual visits occurred generally around the time of the Israelite harvest festival season. The initial visit on September 21 in 1823 coincided with that year’s celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles. In 1824, September 22 was the eve of the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) and the beginning of the fall festivals.”

James 1:8 “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”

Mormon Newsroom IconChurch News, ‘1492 Voyage Fulfilled Prophecy,’ September 26, 1992

Looking at the title of this newsroom announcement would lead one to believe there’s hard proof Columbus’ voyage fulfilled a prophecy. Right?

Wrong.

This church news announcement has to be one of the most insidious things I’ve seen from the Church. It’s filled with deliberate attempts to confuse people like my mother, and cause overall false hope about something that didn’t happen to begin with.

We’re listing a review on key elements from this announcement, followed by our questions about this whole thing. The entire ‘prophecy’ is listed thereafter.

Anyone serious about the Lord has to wonder…Why would the leadership of a ‘God fearing’ church say things like this??????

Luke 17:2 “It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.”

BoM3in1 2The Book of Mormon proves itself to be a false gospel in a number of ways, so today we’re looking at a half dozen verses in the first chapter of the first book to find out why.

Putting things in perspective

Collectively speaking, there are 6.604 verses in the BoM, and by the time you get to verse nine in first Nephi you’ll have already been given a dozen or more reasons to prove the BoM isn’t from God. In vss. 1-8, the experiences of Lehi closely resemble the visions of Moses, Daniel, and Isaiah.

bom.jpgToday we’re taking a look at one specific chapter in the Book of Mormon. While glancing through this I couldn’t help but notice several significant contradictions – no surprise!

As a reminder, here’s the setting taken from the Church’s brief intro about this chapter:

“The Nephites separate themselves from the Lamanites, keep the law of Moses, and build a temple—Because of their unbelief, the Lamanites are cut off from the presence of the Lord, are cursed, and become a scourge unto the Nephites. About 588–559 B.C.”

Let’s take a look at what they’ve done!

Jer. 34:7; “When the king of Babylon’s army fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish, and against Azekah: for these defenced cities remained of the cities of Judah.”

Proceession Street of BabylonThe Bible verse above is a snapshot of real history. The snapshot from the Book of Mormon is anything but.

The Book of Mormon is replete with stories of the Nephites’ encounters with various trials and persecutions. One of the events worthy of exploration is the route Lehi and the family took leaving Jerusalem.

BoM1 Nephi 14:1-2; “And it shall come to pass, that if the Gentiles shall hearken unto the Lamb of God in that day that he shall manifest himself unto them in word, and also in power, in very deed, unto the taking away of their stumbling blocks— 2 And harden not their hearts against the Lamb of God, they shall be numbered among the seed of thy father; yea, they shall be numbered among the house of Israel; and they shall be a blessed people upon the promised land forever; they shall be no more brought down into captivity; and the house of Israel shall no more be confounded.”
