ChurchNews.com “4 January 2019 In the scriptures, one learns that the Lord gives people objects to help guide His people through life’s challenges. One of these items was the Liahona.

“In our day, we have two physical items given to us that accomplish the same purpose of helping us navigate our path through life — our patriarchal blessings and the Book of Mormon. I encourage you to study the Book of Mormon and your patriarchal blessings,” Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said in a Dec. 30, 2018, Instagram post.”” (more…)

Micah 3:7; “Then shall the seers be ashamed, and the diviners confounded: yea, they shall all cover their lips; for there is no answer of God.”

New Era, ‘Your Own Liahona,’ June 2017 by Richard Romney

The sheer amount of false doctrines/teachings in the June edition of the New Era (LDS youth magazine), was one for the record books.

They wasted no time in plunging head first into their theme for the month which was the idolatrous practice of astrology, and witchcraft.

Before his explanation of why it’s important to receive a patriarchal blessing, Mr. Romney asked the following question which is what alerted me to this article causing me to investigate this further.

“Wouldn’t it be great if you could have a spiritual GPS to guide you? With your patriarchal blessing, you can.”

 My Patriarchal Blessing

The following is what a patriarchal blessing means to every member of the Mormon Church.

“Every worthy, baptized member is entitled to and should receive a patriarchal blessing, which provides inspired direction from the Lord. Patriarchal blessings include a declaration of a person’s lineage in the house of Israel and contain personal counsel from the Lord. As a person studies his or her patriarchal blessing and follows the counsel it contains, it will provide guidance, comfort, and protection.” (lds.org)

BoM1 Nephi 14:1-2; “And it shall come to pass, that if the Gentiles shall hearken unto the Lamb of God in that day that he shall manifest himself unto them in word, and also in power, in very deed, unto the taking away of their stumbling blocks— 2 And harden not their hearts against the Lamb of God, they shall be numbered among the seed of thy father; yea, they shall be numbered among the house of Israel; and they shall be a blessed people upon the promised land forever; they shall be no more brought down into captivity; and the house of Israel shall no more be confounded.”

Alma 10:3; “And Aminadi was a descendant of Nephi, who was the son of Lehi, who came out of the land of Jerusalem, who was a descendant of Manasseh, who was the son of Joseph who was sold into Egypt by the hands of his brethren.”

Mormon Decisions 10Encyclopedia of Mormonism, p 461; “In giving a blessing the patriarch may declare our lineage-that is, that we are of Israel, therefore of the family of Abraham, and of a specific tribe of Jacob. In the great majority of cases, Latter-day Saints are of the tribe of Ephraim, the tribe to which has been committed the leadership of the Latter-day work. Whether this lineage is of blood or adoption it does not matter” (p. 73; cf. Abr. 2:10).”

Receiving you own patriarchal blessing is a common practice within the Mormon Church. These blessings are given by the Stake Patriarch to the youth and to those who are recent converts to the Church.

What are Patriarchal Blessings?

PB1Patriarchal Blessings are given to every worthy member of the Church who desires to receive one. Their Patriarchal Blessing includes their lineage in the house of Israel, as well as provides warnings, guidance and comfort for their life.  Mormons believe these blessings are “inspired” direction from the Lord.

Church members consider their patriarchal blessings sacred and are counseled to avoid sharing their blessing with anyone except with a spouse or immediate family (father, mother), and most all they’re not to compare their blessing with another’s.

Patriarchal Blessings

“You Have a Noble Birthright”, Ensign, May 2006, 106; “You are in a season of your life when you are making some of your most important decisions. Because you are being bombarded with so many incorrect messages about who you are, you need some additional guidance. You can learn more about your life and mission on earth and the light that is in you by preparing to receive and then studying your patriarchal blessing.” – Julie Beck
