ChurchNews.com “4 January 2019 In the scriptures, one learns that the Lord gives people objects to help guide His people through life’s challenges. One of these items was the Liahona.
“In our day, we have two physical items given to us that accomplish the same purpose of helping us navigate our path through life — our patriarchal blessings and the Book of Mormon. I encourage you to study the Book of Mormon and your patriarchal blessings,” Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said in a Dec. 30, 2018, Instagram post.””
2 Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”.
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
The contradictory messages from LDS leadership should come as no surprise. The disturbing part of their news brief is what they don’t use to guide their path. Psalm 119:105 says –
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, And a light unto my path.”
Their comments reminded me of what Alistair Begg said at a conference in Seattle – ‘When we lose sight of the cross, we lose our way through the Bible’.
The only way to avoid mayhem and confusion in this world is through the guidance of reading the Bible and His Holy Spirit residing inside us as believers.
Share with a Mormon you know why these things are vitally important to your personal life!

A few months back,I listened to Mormon Discussion Podcast with Bill Reel and RFM (Radio free Mormon), regarding the Liahona. They had a guest who said he was watching an episode of “Antique Roadshow” and one of the items shown was a “Coach (horse drawn) hand warmer”. And he noticed how much it resembled the Liahona in the church artwork. I was a brass ball about 8″ in circumference with ornate filigree (curious workmanship), when opened up, it had a spindle/gyroscope type mechanism that would keep the tiny oil lamp level. And these were used in upstate New York in Joseph Smith’s time to keep ones hands warm on a carriage ride when it was cold. You can find pictures online, and if you want to listen to a really fascinating podcast just go on to Mormon Discussion Podcast and search Liahona and it should come up. Sorry I don’t know how to share links here.
It’s just amazing how much Joseph Smith took and plagiarized from the things around him. Just think had he lived in another part of the world, the BOM would most likely be very different.
And recently, Sharon Lindbloom wrote an article as well on “Mormon Research Ministry”.
