Helaman 7:10-11 “And behold, now it came to pass that it was upon a tower, which was in the garden of Nephi, which was by the highway which led to the chief market, which was in the city of Zarahemla; therefore, Nephi had bowed himself upon the tower which was in his garden, which tower was also near unto the garden gate by which led the highway. 11 And it came to pass that there were certain men passing by and saw Nephi as he was pouring out his soul unto God upon the tower; and they ran and told the people what they had seen, and the people came together in multitudes that they might know the cause of so great mourning for the wickedness of the people.”
Matthew 26:36 “Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.”
Today we’re looking at an odd ‘coincidence’ between the BoM, and the Bible. Here we are again with yet another one…
I wouldn’t have even picked up on this one had it not been for an LDS article I came across earlier this week. Unbelievably, the article was a match-game activity for LDS kids with 15 events from the Bible, and the BoM. They went on to say the following –
‘If at the end you have made more correct Bible guesses than Book of Mormon guesses, perhaps you have discovered your weak and strong points in scriptural knowledge.’
We can only surmise this meant that the more they knew about the Bible, the weaker their knowledge. To read their article in full, see New Era, ‘A Puzzlement Identification’, May 1975.
Their article is proof that Satan goes to great lengths to confuse, and contrive. On the other end of the spectrum was info I read from the site That the World May Know, who provided info on the area surrounding Gethsemane. Their site shows an image looking from the garden to the Golden Gate which is part of the wall surrounding Jerusalem.
We have to ask, if the BoM is true, why did Smith need to make up such elaborate stories about the so-called Nephites?
For our list of other ‘coincidences’, see “Coincidences” in Mormonism.
Please, pray for Mormons to know the difference, and for Jesus to intervene!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
Let see what God has to say about towers (graven images), and gardens (groves).
Deuteronomy 7:5 “But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.
It’s interesting, there is a 50′ obelisk (tower/pilar/altar) dedicated to Joseph Smith in Sharon Vermont, which was Joseph Smith birth place.
