Free Agency

Mormon Decisions 10Mormon Doctrine, pg 26; “Agency is the ability and freedom to choose good or evil. It is an eternal principle which has existed with God from all eternity.”

Journal of Discourses 7:374; “Have we not a right to make up our minds in relation to the things recorded in the word of God, and speak about them, whether the living oracles believe our views or not? We have not the right. Why? Because the mind of man is weak…” – Elder Pratt, Salt Lake City, January 29, 1860

Perfect Obedience Required

Mormon Decisions 10Ensign May 2009; “I urge each on to qualify for and receive all the priesthood ordinances you can and then faithfully keep the promises you have made by covenant. In times of distress, let your covenants be paramount and let your obedience be exact. Then you can ask in faith, nothing wavering, according to your need, and God will answer. He will sustain you.” – Elder D. Todd Christofferson

1 John 4:12; “No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.”

Are They Watching You?

Today as I was surfing the net I popped over to the Mormon Church’s web site, lds.org. It’s undergone some major changes since the last time I visited. On the site now members and non-members can sign up for an account that will allow them certain privileges on the site.

Non-church members of course have limited access to the site, whereas active church members receive an all access pass to many features on the site. But what non-members get to see and don’t get to see isn’t the point of my article. As I clicked to see what information a church member would have to provide to receive an account, I discovered that to receive full access to they must provide their Member Record Number located on their Temple Recommend.

Women, Unmarried are Damned

Latter-day Prophets and the D&C, 4:392-393; We cannot feel justified in closing this article on the subject of marriage without saying a few words to unmarried females in this Church. You will clearly perceive, from the revelation which God has given, that you can never obtain a fulness of glory, without being married to a righteous man for time and for all eternity.” – Orson Pratt

JENN

I was born and raised a Utah Mormon. I was blessed with wonderful parents who loved me very much. I have many good childhood memories with them and my siblings.  My family was very active in the LDS Church and I was taught it was the only true Church on the Earth. I was taught that although other religions had ‘some truth’ to them, they were still all wrong.

Blacks are Inferior

Race Problems–As They Affect the Church, August 27, 1954, address at CES convention at Brigham Young University; Think of the Negro, cursed as to the Priesthood.  Are we prejudiced against him? Unjustly, sometimes we are accused of having such a prejudice. But what does the mercy of God have for him? This negro, who, in the pre-existence lived the type of life which justified the Lord in sending him to the earth in the lineage of Cain with a black skin, and possibly being born in darkest Africa if that Negro is willing when he hears the gospel to accept it, he may have many of the blessings of the gospel. In spite of all he did in the pre-existent life, the Lord is willing, if the Negro accepts the gospel with real, sincere faith, and is really converted, to give him the blessings of baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost. If that Negro is faithful all his days, he can and will enter the celestial kingdom. He will go there as a servant, but he will get a celestial resurrection.” – Mark E. Petersen

Freedom for Mormons

I have found truth to be elusive in the Mormon Church. It changes, becoming something different from one generation to the next. Whimsies of past and present Mormon presidents have described truth as one thing, and then it seems to become something else later. The Mormon Church says God is speaking. But how do we know?

The Confusion Fight

She closed the book for the third time knowing she wouldn’t remember the information she had just read.  It was always like that with her, she was never able to remember details when trying to learn something new.  She could watch a television show on the History or Discovery Channel and not remember the important parts.  Sometimes she could remember the main theme, but even that would be sketchy in her memory bank after a few days. While she had lived this way for more than forty years, it never occurred to her there may be a good reason why it was so.

Polygamy and Mormon Church Leaders

Wilford Woodruff 1807-1898

Journal of Discourses 13:166; “If we were to do away with polygamy, it would only be one feather in the bird, one ordinance in the Church and kingdom. Do away with that, then we must do away with prophets and Apostles, with revelation and the gifts and graces of the Gospel, and finally give up our religion altogether and turn sectarians and do as the world does, then all would be right. We just can’t do that, for God has commanded us to build up His kingdom and to bear our testimony to the nations of the earth, and we are going to do it, come life or come death.” – Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, December 12, 1869

THE TEMPLE OF GOD

October 2005

As most of you are aware, my writings about the LDS Church often reflect the book in the Bible I am studying at the time.  Right now I am in an in-depth study on Paul’s first epistle to the new believers in Corinth.  Half way through my study for the day it became abundantly clear what I was to write this time for the website.  After walking with the Lord for more than twelve years now I’ve discovered there is no such thing as “coincidence”.

Utah’s Dark Reality Just Keeps Getting Darker

2010 Utah Suicide Report

Mark 12:29-34; “And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

 Utah’s Legacy

Before I sent this off to be published I wanted to add a few words, especially for the members of the LDS Church.

You know, as we live this life on earth we learn and grow while encountering things we never thought of before.  Years ago I went about making sure that I brought children into this world because I was convinced it’d get me into heaven.  Now of course I’ve learned this doctrine isn’t true, but more importantly there was one other thing I didn’t think about when having all these kids.  That one thing was growing attached to and feeling compassion for the kids my own children would one day surround themselves with in life.

March 20 – Ex. 12:9 says; “Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it”.

_____

God was rather clear when He told the Israelites not to eat raw meat, but in the Book of Mormon this isn’t a problem with their god.  Ask them why this would be so.

_____

1 Nephi 17:2;  “And so great were the blessings of the Lord upon us, that while we did live upon raw meat in the wilderness, our women did give plenty of suck for their children, and were strong, yea, even like unto the men; and they began to bear their journeyings without murmurings”.

March 19 – Numbers 14:25; “(Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley).  To morrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea”.

_____

Use this verse as a geography lesson for the Mormon.  There has never been a river that empties into the Red Sea.  It is surrounded by wilderness (desert) only.

_____

1 Nephi 2:8; “And it came to pass that he called the name of the river, Laman, and it emptied into the Red Sea; and the valley was in the borders near the mouth thereof.”

March 18 – Luke 11:33 says; “No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light”.

_____

Word study!  The Mormon Church has their temples to utter secret oaths to their god.  They will tell you they are sacred not secret, but they won’t tell you what those oaths are.  That’s what makes them secret!

_____

1 Nephi 20:16 even says that their god doesn’t speak in secret.  “Come ye near unto me; I have not spoken in secret; from the beginning, from the time that it was declared have I spoken; and the Lord God, and his Spirit hath sent me”.

UTAH’S DARK REALITY

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) the leading cause of death in America is heart disease, with suicide ranking eleventh. [1] Compare that with what the Utah Department of Health says.  They report the leading cause of death for males between the ages of 15-44 as suicide.  The Utah External Injury Data System says that from 1992 to 1999 there were 7,713 suicides alone.  Eleven of those were between the ages of 0-9 years of age. [2]

The rate of suicide in Utah for females between the ages of 15-44 is four times the national average.  With this being said, the CDC has been “unable to explain the regional variation of suicide”.  About 20 percent of successful suicides have occurred in the 13-21 year old age bracket.  The Utah Department of Health has declared it an “epidemic”.   For the past four decades now, Utah has ranked in the top ten for numbers of suicides in the nation.  [3] What is equally disturbing is that the other nine states are located in the intermountain west and Alaska. March 17 – 1 Corinthians 14:33 tells us that God is never a God of confusion.  “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints”.

_____

The Mormon Church teaches that three of the twelve apostles never died.  If this is the case, then why do the Mormons claim the church needed to be restored?

_____

Introduction of 3 Nephi 28.  “Each of the twelve is granted his heart’s desire – Three elect to remain on earth until the Lord comes in his glory…They are made immune to death and disaster”.

March 13 – Gen. 3:24; “So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubim’s, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life”.

_____

Next to John 3:16, the Genesis scripture should be at the forefront of every believer’s mind.  Man was separated from God, thus the need for John 3:16.  It was not God’s intention for this to happen.  He knew it would happen, but it doesn’t mean that He willed it to happen.  The Mormon believes man had to sin in order to know joy, sadness and to even procreate.  They believe this sin commandment came from God.

_____

“In conformity to the will of the Lord, Adam fell both spiritually and temporally.”  Mormon Doctrine, pg. 268.
