Malachi 3:6 “For I am the Lord, I change not; Therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.”
The old saying, ‘the more things change, the more they stay the same’ is true to life for the Mormon Church.
Surely, the Church is the poster child for the phrase as seen in the multiple switcheroos we’ve seen as of late.
Once again they’re changing the style of temple garments to accommodate needs of societal change. They’ve now come out with a modern material, in addition to new fittings, especially for the women. (more…)

February 18 – Temple Garments & Masonic Markings. God dresses us through Christ Jesus in the garments of salvation He spoke of in Isaiah 61:10; “I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels”.

Garments of Salvation v. Temple Garments

A few years ago Melissa wrote a great article on temple garments every Mormon is required to wear when they become temple worthy. Her insight on what it means to be spiritually tied down to a piece of clothing is fantastic!
A recent e-mail from someone who is just leaving the Church prompted me to go back and read her article, and while doing so a few questions came to mind. Surprise, I know!

Recently the Mormon Church debuted a video discussing their “sacred” garments and other clothing worn in the temple endowment ceremony.
During the video it said that their white undergarments and temple clothing represent “purity”. As I think about this a few questions come to mind such as:
What makes those garments white and pure?
Is it the blood of Jesus Christ, or is it obedience the laws of the Mormon gospel?
What do they really represent?

Are They Watching You?
Today as I was surfing the net I popped over to the Mormon Church’s web site, lds.org. It’s undergone some major changes since the last time I visited. On the site now members and non-members can sign up for an account that will allow them certain privileges on the site.
Non-church members of course have limited access to the site, whereas active church members receive an all access pass to many features on the site. But what non-members get to see and don’t get to see isn’t the point of my article. As I clicked to see what information a church member would have to provide to receive an account, I discovered that to receive full access to they must provide their Member Record Number located on their Temple Recommend.

Temple Garments
This article comes from a section from the Mentoring Handbook that we have available at our bookstore or you can download it for free on the site.
It is a compilation of LDS doctrines we’ve looked at and compared to biblical standards to see is what Joseph Smith taught and the modern-day LDS still adhere to today.

Under the Mormon’s street clothing” are their temple garments. These garments are to be worn at all times. They have markings on each breast and groin area for both male and female. Mormons see them as a sign of protection from God and to be set apart from the rest of the world. They use Rev. 16:15 as a reference to their need of being clothed with them.

“The garment represents sacred covenants. It fosters modesty and becomes a shield and protection to the wearer.” Preparing to Enter the Holy Temple, pg. 21.
