As an FYI, in updating some of our articles, I was reminded of this one that’s always been one of my favs. We pray members of the Church will take notice as they build their to-do lists during the holidays.
Jesus is the Only Way

I recently come upon this quote by Gordon B. Hinckley:
“Just as our Redeemer gave His life as a vicarious sacrifice for all men, and in so doing became our Savior, even so we, in a small measure, when we engage in proxy work in the temple, become as saviors to those on the other side who have no means of advancing unless something is done in their behalf by those on earth” (“Closing Remarks,” Ensign, November 2004, 105).
The idea that we have the power to save someone, in the eternal sense is blasphemy. We don’t have the power to do that, only Jesus does. You don’t need someone to do Masonic temple rituals for you in the LDS temple.

“Redeem means to pay off an obligation or a debt. Redeem can also mean to rescue or set free as by paying a ransom. … Each of these meanings suggests different facets of the great Redemption accomplished by Jesus Christ through His Atonement, which includes, in the words of the dictionary, ‘to deliver from sin and its penalties, as by a sacrifice made for the sinner.” (“Redemption,” Ensign, May 2013, 109.)

Smith, pg. 32; “Over the six years when polygamy was practiced in Nauvoo, 1841 to 1846, Smith, Kimball, and Young were the most-married men in Nauvoo; they accounted, in fact, for 117 of the 434 Nauvoo polygamous marriages, over one-fourth of the marriages by the community of 153 polygamous husbands. After Nauvoo, Young married fifteen more wives and Kimball married eight. You may not know it, but the phrase above comes from the inspired writings of Doctrine and Covenants. You will find that line of scripture in D&C 3:3. It reads once again, “It is not the work of God that is frustrated, but the work of men.”
