“And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.” Psalm 50:6
Journal of Discourses 4:64 “There is a spirit of murmuring among the people, and the fault is laid upon brother Brigham. For this reason the heavens are closed against you, for he holds the keys of life and salvation upon the earth; and you may strive as much as you please, but not one of you will ever go through the strait gate into the kingdom of God, except those that go through by that man and his brethren, for they will be the persons whose inspection you must pass. I tell you this plain truth, and you may do what you think best with it.” — Heber C. Kimball, Delivered in the Tabernacle, Great Salt Lake City, November 2, 1856. Reported by G. D. Watt. (more…)

Journal of Discourses 5:178 “Sisters, let us take a course that you may not be brought into these straits — that you may not have to take your children, and your budgets under your arms, and flee to the mountains. But if you do not listen to counsel, and begin today, you will have to do that; but if you obey counsel, you never will have to go into these mountains — no, never, while the earth stands.
We will stand on our own dunghill and crow, and the hens will crow, and the chickens will crow, and they will all crow long and loud, and you will not be able to tell the difference be- tween a hen and a rooster, nor between a rooster and a hen, for they will all crow the same tune. We will stand on our own dunghill and crow, and say what we please from this day, and they never will prevail against us — no, never; and I will prophecy it in the name of Israel’s God. [Voices: “Amen.”]” — Heber C. Kimball, delivered in the Bowery, Great Salt Lake City, Sunday morning, August 23, 1857. (more…)

If brother Brigham goes ahead, and I stand by him, and Daniel stands by me, and the Twelve by us, we never shall be separated — never, no, never.
Men that are engaged in this work and kingdom, if they are one, they will he tied together, that they never will be separated, no more than two drops of water.” — Heber C. Kimball, delivered in the Bowery, Great Salt Lake City, Sunday morning, August 23, 1857. (more…)

Do What Prophets Say; Even When Wrong it’s None of Your Business
Journal of Discourses 6:32 “…WAKE UP! WAKE UP, YE ELDERS OF ISRAEL, AND LIVE TO GOD and none else; and learn to do as you are told, both old and young: learn to do as you are told for the future. And when you are taking a position, if you do not know that you are right, do not take it—I mean independently. But if you are told by your leader to do a thing, do it. None of your business whether it is right or wrong.” – Heber C. Kimball, Salt Lake City, November 8, 1857

‘But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.’ Acts 10:35
General Conference, ‘Hearts Knit in Righteousness and Unity’, October 2020 “Unity is enhanced when people are treated with dignity and respect, even though they are different in outward characteristics.
As leaders, we are not under the illusion that in the past all relationships were perfect, all conduct was Christlike, or all decisions were just. …
Our desire is that our hearts and minds will be knit in righteousness and unity and that we will be one with Them. …
We are all aware that we can do better, and that is our challenge in this day. … At this 200-year hinge point in our Church history, let us commit ourselves as members of the Lord’s Church to live righteously and be united as never before. …” — Quentin L. Cook (more…)
Shedding Blood—God’s Provision for His Saints

Journal of Discourses 6:50 “Shedding Blood—God’s Provision for His Saints … If this people will live up to their profession— …that is, we shall never be under the necessity of shedding much of the blood of our enemies.
…I do not believe God designs that we should delight in shedding blood. … It is not the Spirit of God that leads a man or woman to shed blood—to desire to kill and slay. When the time comes that we have need to shed blood, then it will be necessary we should do it, and it will be just as innocent as to go and kill an ox when we are hungry or in the time of famine. … I think there is a Scripture somewhere that says, “By your works you are justified;” and again, “Obedience is better than sacrifice.” It is the works that God expects. …
Will our enemies come here? No, except we let them. God gives us that privilege. We have the right to let them in here or keep them out; and we choose to keep them out, and we shall do it by the help of God…
We have done the best we can; and if our enemies come upon us, God will throw them into our power, and they will become subject to us. … Are these things interesting to you, brethren? They are what you have to do, every man of you that belongs to the house of Israel.” — Heber C. Kimball, Tabernacle, Great Salt Lake City, November 15, 1857. (more…)

“For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” 2 Corinthians 11:13-14
In the past 25+ years of ministry, I’ve come across my fair share of interesting Mormon quotes. Today is one of the days we’ll be adding to our list of ‘Worst of the Worst Mormon Quotes’.
Heber C. Kimball’s speech was an interesting example of what happens when uninspired people are allowed time at a pulpit.
While I’ve trimmed Mr. Kimball’s speech down, the part I’ve left is lengthy today. The reason, I pray, will be obvious. His words were so outlandish, but they show how the Church confused members then, just as they still do today.
This is truly one of the worst quotes I’ve ever seen.
Pray for LDS members today who listen to the false teachings of their leaders who are still delivering confusing messages like this example today. (more…)

Kimball who was present recorded the following in his journal: “While on our way we felt anxious to know who the person was who had been killed by that arrow. It was made known to Joseph that he had been an officer who fell in battle, in the last destruction among the Lamanites, and his name was Zelph. This caused us to rejoice much, to think that God was so mindful of us as to show these things to his servant. Brother Joseph had inquired of the Lord, and it was made known in a vision.”” — Joseph Fielding Smith (more…)
Did Jesus’ Apostles Kill Judas?

Journal of Discourses 6:125 “Jesus said to his disciples, “Ye are the salt of the earth; and if the salt loses its saving principle, it is then good for nothing but to be cast out.” Instead of reading it just as it is, almost all of you read it just as it is not. Jesus meant to say, “If you have lost the saving principles, you Twelve Apostles, and you that believe in my servants the Twelve, you shall be like unto the salt that has lost its saving principles: it is henceforth good for nothing but to be cast out and trodden under foot of men.” Judas lost that saving principle, and they took him and killed him. It is said in the Bible that his bowels gushed out; but they actually kicked him until his bowels came out.” – Heber C. Kimball, Salt Lake City, December 13, 1857

Heber’s Faulty Memory; God Didn’t Appear to Joseph Smith
Journal of Discourses 6:29 “Do you suppose that God in person called upon Joseph Smith, our Prophet? God called upon him; but God did not come himself and call, but he sent Peter to do it. Do you not see? He sent Peter and sent Moroni to Joseph, and told him that he had got the plates. Did God come himself? No: he sent Moroni and told him there was a record, and says he, “That record is matter that pertains to the Lamanites, and it tells when their fathers came out of Jerusalem, and how they came, and all about it; and, says he, “If you will do as I tell you, I will confer a gift upon you.” Well, he conferred it upon him, because Joseph said he would do as he told him. “I want you to go to work and take the Urim and Thummim, and translate this book, and have it published, that this nation may read it.” Do you not see, by Joseph receiving the gift that was conferred upon him, you and I have that record?” – Heber C. Kimball, Salt Lake City, November 8, 1857

These have ever been my feelings from the days of my youth. This is my character, and the character of President Brigham Young. “The Journal of Discourses is not an official publication of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is a compilation of sermons and other materials from the early years of the Church, which were transcribed and then published. It included some doctrinal instruction but also practical teaching, some of which is speculative in nature and some of which is only of historical interest.” Journal of Discourses
As a reminder, the quote above came from the official website of the LDS Church, and the problem with it is clearly seen in the preface of each volume for the JoD (Journal of Discourses). While each volume has a unique intro, we believe volume two contains one of the most horrifying statements we’ve read in all of Mormondom.
The purpose in gathering all the Church’s endorsements for the JoD isn’t to sensationalize, rather, it’s to inform. We pray the Christian will be able to utilize the info to aid while witnessing, and members of the Church will see the contradictions in the Church’s statements. Please know we’re praying for all involved!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle

And just when you thought they couldn’t possibly come up with more…
Apparently not every Mormon leader was on board with the Adam-god theory. As we’ll see today, Mr. Romney’s understanding of Adam’s identity was no closer to truth than the theories of Brigham Young, or Heber C. Kimball.
