Journal of Discourses 7:20 “These are my views, and the Lord knows that I believe in the principles of sanctification; and when I am guilty of seducing any man’s wife, or any woman in God’s world, I say sever my head from my body. These have ever been my feelings from the days of my youth. This is my character, and the character of President Brigham Young. It was the character of Joseph Smith and of Jesus Christ; and that is the character of the Apostles of Jesus, and that must be sustained by this people.” — Heber C. Kimball, Great Salt Lake City, July 16, 1854 (more…)

Journal of Discourses 4:174 “Are there men in our midst who will court other men’s wives? Yes, and will take them right to the ungodly for them to seduce, and they will take our daughters and do the same. What are such men worthy of? They are worthy of death, and they will get it. That time is nearby, and God has spoken from the heavens, and when certain things are about right, we shall make a public example of those characters.” – Heber C. Kimball, Great Salt Lake City, January 11, 1857 (more…)

“The Journal of Discourses is not an official publication of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is a compilation of sermons and other materials from the early years of the Church, which were transcribed and then published. It included some doctrinal instruction but also practical teaching, some of which is speculative in nature and some of which is only of historical interest.” Journal of Discourses

Journals1As a reminder, the quote above came from the official website of the LDS Church, and  the problem with it is clearly seen in the preface of each volume for the JoD (Journal of Discourses). While each volume has a unique intro, we believe volume two contains one of the most horrifying statements we’ve read in all of Mormondom.

The purpose in gathering all the Church’s endorsements for the JoD isn’t to sensationalize, rather, it’s to inform. We pray the Christian will be able to utilize the info to aid while witnessing, and members of the Church will see the contradictions in the Church’s statements. Please know we’re praying for all involved!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle

And just when you thought they couldn’t possibly come up with more…

LDS LeadersApparently not every Mormon leader was on board with the Adam-god theory. As we’ll see today, Mr. Romney’s understanding of Adam’s identity was no closer to truth than the theories of Brigham Young, or Heber C. Kimball.

Adam is God of All

Heber C KimballToday we’re looking at early Mormonism. As we’ve stated many times before, the reason why we look at this topic is twofold. Not only does it provides insight of what was going on back then, but it helps in understanding the mindset of Mormons today.

The Mormon culture of the 19th century didn’t just stop. It provided the foundation, if you will, for the tradition of Mormonism in the 21st century.

salt lake mormon temple 2Journal of Discourses 5:22; “Nearly twenty years ago, I was in a place in England in which I felt very curious; but I did notHeber C Kimball know at the time what it meant. I went through a town called Chadburn, beyond Clithero. Before I went there, some persons told me that there was no use in my going, and asked me what I wanted to go to Chadburn for, saying it was the worst place in the country; for the sectarian priests had preached there faithfully thirty years without making any impression. Notwithstanding that, I went, and preached once, and baptized twenty-five persons, where the priests had not been able to do a thing.

Let us bless and dedicate the fountains of life that are in us, in our wives and children, and in everything else around us.

Can the Spirit of God enter a stone, or one of those posts? Yes; and it can fill every pore as well as it can every pore in my body. Can it enter into my pores? Yes, even into my hair; and it can also enter my bones and quicken every limb, joint, and fiber.” –  Remarks by President Heber C. Kimball, Delivered in the Bowery, Great Salt Lake City, April 6, 1857

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 5:27–28; “Here in Great Salt Lake City is the seat of government for the Church and Kingdom of God, pertaining toHeber C Kimball every person that has ever come into a probation on this earth, whether they are now in tabernacles upon this earth, or whether they are in the spirit world, or in hell. This is the place of deposit of all those keys pertaining to the salvation of the human family; and there never will one soul of those spirits now in prison come out of that place, except the keys of the kingdom of God that are now held in Great Salt Lake City open the door and let them out. They may peep and mutter, and may have revelations until doomsday, and may declare to all eternity that Joseph Smith is a false prophet, and that brother Brigham is a false prophet, and that this Church is false, and they will still remain in hell until we let them out.

Mormon Decisions 10History of The Church 2:188-189; “The blessing of Brigham YoungBrigham Young was that he should be strong in body, that he might go forth and gather the elect, preparatory to the great day of the coming of the Lord; and that he might be strong and mighty, declaring the tidings to nations that know not God; that he may add ten talents; that he may come to Zion with many sheaves. He shall go forth from land and from sea to sea; and shall behold heavenly messengers going forth; and his life shall be prolonged; and the Holy Priesthood is conferred on him, that he may do wonders in the name of Jesus; that he may cast out devils, heal the sick, raise the dead, open the eyes of the blind, go forth from land to land and from sea to sea; and that heathen nations shall even call him God himself, if he do not rebuke them.”

Mormon Decisions 10On February 14, 1835 Joe Smith and his three BoM witnesses chose their twelve apostles for the LDS Church. Each of the twelve received a special blessing and each of those blessings contained at least one false prophecy!

Today we’re looking at a few of the false prophecies given in the blessing toHeber C Kimball Heber C. Kimball –

History of the Church 2:189; “The Blessing of Heber C. Kimball – Heber C. Kimball’s blessing was, in substance, that he shall be made like unto those who have been blessed before him; and be favored with the same blessing. That he might receive visions; the ministration of angels, and hear their voice; and even come into the presence of God; that many millions may be converted by his instrumentality; that angels may waft him from place to place, and that he may stand unto the coming of our Lord, and receive a crown in the Kingdom of our God; that he be made acquainted with the day when Christ shall come; that he shall be made perfect in faith; and that the deaf shall hear, the lame shall walk, the blind shall see, and greater things than these shall he do; that he shall have boldness of speech before the nations, and great power….”

Mormon Decisions 10Historical Record, v. 6, p. 240; “I was married to Joseph Smith on the 4th of March 1843… My sister Eliza was also married to Joseph a few days later. This was done without the knowledge of Emma Smith.”

Life of Heber C. Kimball (Apostle), by Orson F. Whitney, pp. 335-336; “… my father… was taught the plural wife doctrine, and was told by Joseph, the Prophet, three times, to go and take a certain woman as his wife; but not till heHeber C Kimball commanded him in the name of the Lord did he obey. At the same time Joseph told him not to divulge this secret, not even to my mother, for fear that she would not receive it… This was one of the greatest test of his faith he had ever experienced. The thought of deceiving the kind and faithful wife of his youth… was more than he felt able to bear…. his sorrow and misery were increased by the thought of my mother hearing it from some other source, which would no doubt separate them, and he shrank from the thought of such a thing, or of causing her any unhappiness.”

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 6:126; “Jesus said to his disciples, “Ye are the salt of the earth; and if the salt loses its saving principle, it is then good for nothing but to be cast out.” Instead of reading it just as it is, almost all of you read it just as it is not. Jesus meant to say, “If you have lost the saving principles, you Twelve Apostles, and you that believe in my servants the Twelve, you shall be like unto the salt that has lost its saving principles: it is henceforth good for nothing but to be cast out and trodden under foot of men.” Judas lost that saving principle, and they took him and killed him. It is said in the Bible that his bowels gushed out; but they actually kicked him until his bowels came out.” – Heber C. Kimball, Salt Lake City, December 13, 1857
