“For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” 2 Corinthians 11:13-14
In the past 25+ years of ministry, I’ve come across my fair share of interesting Mormon quotes. Today is one of the days we’ll be adding to our list of ‘Worst of the Worst Mormon Quotes’.
Heber C. Kimball’s speech was an interesting example of what happens when uninspired people are allowed time at a pulpit.
While I’ve trimmed Mr. Kimball’s speech down, the part I’ve left is lengthy today. The reason, I pray, will be obvious. His words were so outlandish, but they show how the Church confused members then, just as they still do today.
This is truly one of the worst quotes I’ve ever seen.
Pray for LDS members today who listen to the false teachings of their leaders who are still delivering confusing messages like this example today.
Journal of Discourses 1:356-357 “I will tell you what will be good for us, and it will bestow upon us all the luxuries of this life, of heaven and earth. You are talking about heaven and about earth, and about hell, &c.; but let me tell you, you are in hell now, and you have got to qualify yourselves here in hell to become subjects for heaven; and even when you have got into heaven, you will find it right here where you are on this earth.
When we escape from this earth, we suppose we are going to heaven? Do you suppose you are going to the earth that Adam came from? that Eloheim came from? where Jehovah the Lord came from? No. When you have learned to become obedient to the Father that dwells upon this earth, to the Father and God of this earth, and obedient to the messengers He sends—when you have done all that, remember you are not going to leave this earth.
You will never leave it until you become qualified, and capable, and capacitated to become a father of an earth yourselves. Not one soul of you ever will leave this earth, for if you go to hell, it is on this earth; and if you go to heaven, it is on this earth; and you will not find it anywhere else.
Is it not hard to bring these truths home to you. I tell you I am at home now, and I am in heaven; but the heaven I have to enjoy is the heaven I make myself. …the first place to begin to make a heaven, is to make it at home, and then we will club together, and conclude to have it all over…” — Heber C. Kimball, Great Salt Lake City, November 14, 1852
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
Garbage……but the church forgets to quote this, don’t they. “The heaven I make myself……?” Truly evil men leading people astray. Do you answer questions here? If so, Heb 1:1-2 says God, in the past, spoke to us through prophets and in these last days God speaks to us through His Son. A Mormon I was ‘chatting’ with said Jesus prophecied and so did Paul and they ‘were in the last days’ so how is that explained? I pointed out that his prophet said no more ‘mormon’, only LDS. I said his prophet erased the slicing and dicing representations in the temple and erased the ‘protestant’ minister. I said his prophet tells him where to go to church based on his house address. I said none of those things points to Jesus nor salvation. I said his prophet was the king of the pharisees, making rules, rules, rules. I doubt my answer was good enough but he didn’t reply. What is the best way to answer his argument?
Hi Sandra!
I think you’ve given the Mormon you’re speaking with the best answer there is. It’s always scripture, scripture, scripture! It may take years for people to come around, and then there are those who never will. Our job is to speak truth in a loving manner by sharing His word. You might be the only representation of Jesus this man will ever know.
It took me 13 yrs of Christians witnessing to me thru various means and situations before I finally accepted the Lord. My poor friends! I thank Him every day for the patience they portrayed, and the truth they told even when I so ungraciously threw it back in their faces many times.
Hi guys, the Old Sarge here. The Bible addresses such ramblings as Mr Kimball’s and other leaders of the Mormon church. The Bible tells us that we are to : ‘Cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God (God’s Word) and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5)
If Mr Kimball spent more time reading the Bible and less time imagining such Godless ideas, perhaps the Mormon church would less confused than it is today.
Hi Sandra… there’s nothing wrong with your answer. All we can do is plant the seeds, and let God take over. So frustrating.
“for if you go to hell, it is on this earth; and if you go to heaven, it is on this earth”????
Okay…I’m totally confused 😔
Thanks for your response. More love in my conversations with the ‘lost’ in the future. It took me several years to come to the saving gift Jesus offers, too. Hallelujah!
