April 9 — This time around we’re looking at three more talks given at General Conference. The first is by Wan-Liang Wu and the other two are by LDS prophet Dallin Oaks. As a reminder the talks we’re looking at are not in the same order as listed on the Church’s site.
Talk #3 —
Giving Away Sins
General Conference, ‘I Will Give Away All My Sins to Know Thee’, April 2026 “I was born into a non-Christian family. As a boy, I would accompany my mother to Chinese temples to worship different gods. …the great miracle came when I was 10 years old and we moved to Bolivia. I met the missionaries. They taught me about a God I had never heard of before. …Even though I didn’t speak Spanish and couldn’t understand all the words, I felt peace in my heart, and somehow I knew that what I was learning was good. …
In the Book of Mormon, we read the story of an old king who, like me, did not know God. He had met a missionary…[who said]… if there is a God, and if thou art God, wilt thou make thyself known unto me, and I will give away all my sins to know thee.”
…Coming unto Christ is much more than just learning of Christ. It includes faith and works…I invite you to choose to have faith in Jesus Christ and to decide to follow Him. For “there is none other name given under heaven save it be this Jesus Christ … whereby man can be saved.” — Wan-Liang Wu
_____
Acts 4:12 “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
_____
Matthew 20:28 “Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
_____
I chose to post on Mr. Wu’s talk because he mentioned that his mother would take him to temples to worship foreign gods. It reminded me of when my mother would take me to the Ogden, UT temple to be baptized for dead people. I too was worshiping false gods.
One of the sad parts of his talk is when he said he didn’t understand what the missionaries were telling him because of the language barrier.
This is a form of love-bombing. They’ll tell you what they think you need to know to make themselves sound good and trick you into joining the church.
Furthermore, there’s nothing you or I can do to earn salvation! As Jesus said in Matthew 20:28, He came to minister.
Paul also reminded us in Ephesians 2:8-9 that we can’t earn salvation —
“8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Please pray that Mr. Wu will know the Jesus of the Bible and not the foreign god of Mormonism!
Talk #4 —
Love Enemies
General Conference, ‘Alive in Christ’, April 2026 “Living worthy to meet Christ is no easy task. Many current writers characterize the time in which we live as toxic, a time of contempt or hostility toward adversaries. … “Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you” (Matthew 5:43–44). … My brothers and sisters, as followers of Christ, let us follow Him by forgoing contention …as followers of Christ, we should seek to live peaceably and lovingly with other children of God who do not share our values and do not have the covenant obligations we have assumed. In a democratic government we should seek fairness for all.” — President Dallin H. Oaks

1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 “And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; 12 That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.”
_____
I can’t read minds but found it interesting Mr. Oaks used two specific phrases in this talk.
The first he said is that writers have stated the times we live in are toxic. I couldn’t agree more on that one.
The other thing he did was to use scripture to tell people they should love their enemies. We couldn’t help but think of the saga with John Dehlin is going through with the Church. He hosts the podcast Mormon Stories. LDS.inc has been giving them grief over using the word Mormon because they’ve copyrighted that word.
Whether you agree with Mr. Dehlin’s philosophy or not it speaks to the Church’s behavioral problem of not following what Paul said in 1st Thessalonians.
BTW – Oaks also said, ‘Living worthy to meet Christ is no easy task’. That’s exactly why Jesus came here and died ON THE CROSS.
Pray that members of the Church would turn to Jesus instead of following these false teachers!
Talk #5 —
Reminder to Follow Leaders…
Closing Remarks “…As we treasure up and act upon the teachings of this conference, the Lord will continue to teach and inspire us with personal revelation and guidance.
I promise this to each of us as we follow the directions of the servants of the Lord and “look to God and live…” — President Dallin H. Oaks
_____
John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
_____
Jesus didn’t mention we should follow leaders of the Church so please pray for members to follow Him!
