Journal of Discourses 5:179 “The Spirit that is on me this morning is the Spirit of the Lord; it is the Holy Ghost, although some of you may not think that the Holy Ghost is ever cheerful Well, let me tell you, the Holy Ghost is a man; he is one of the sons of our Father and our God; and he is that man that stood next to Jesus Christ, just as I stand by brother Brigham. If brother Brigham goes ahead, and I stand by him, and Daniel stands by me, and the Twelve by us, we never shall be separated — never, no, never.

Men that are engaged in this work and kingdom, if they are one, they will he tied together, that they never will be separated, no more than two drops of water.” — Heber C. Kimball, delivered in the Bowery, Great Salt Lake City, Sunday morning, August 23, 1857. (more…)

The Learning of Eternal Truths

Brigham Young University–Idaho Devotional

February 22, 2005

“I ask that the Spirit of the Lord will be upon us today so that you and I might learn together. President Marion G. Romney once remarked that speakers, under the influence of the Holy Ghost might also learn, I quote, I always know when I am speaking under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost because I always learn something from what I’ve said” (quoted in Boyd K. Packer, Teach Ye Diligently, 1975, 304).” – Dale E. Miller [emp. mine]

Mormon Decisions 10The other day I came across an online repository of sorts filled with LDS references about the Mormon Holy Ghost. The quotes were taken from speeches, and writings of past and present leaders of Mormonism, and as it turned out the page was written by a professor at BYU, Bruce K. Satterfield.

Looking over some of these I can’t help but feel sorry for those who absorb this into their spirit. There’s mass confusion from one leader to the next with no solid foundational truth upon which to stand. It’s no wonder the #1 issue for many new ex-Mormons is a lack of confidence about God’s Holy Spirit, and how He operates.

I just cannot imagine living life without God’s Holy Spirit as a constant staple in my life. When I’m lonely, or unsure about life, without fail, He is always there to guide me along and clarify doubts for me in His word and His presence.

henry eyringGeneral Conference, ‘The Holy Ghost as Your Companion,’ October 2015;

This talk given by Mormon apostle Henry Eyring has to be one of the most drawn out, fallacious speeches I’ve read in a long time. There are no less than ten references made about the Holy Spirit, all of which are lies. You can read his speech in full by clicking on the embedded link above.

For now we’ve listed the most troubling comments he made and as always, we’re asking for  you to pray those who listened to this would question the validity of what he said. After each quote, we’ve listed a biblical rebuttal  you can share with your Mormon friends.

The Two Comforters

Discourses of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg 41-42; “There are two Comforters spoken of. One is the Holy Ghost, the same as given on the day of Pentecost, and that all Saints receive after faith, repentance, and baptism. This first Comforter or Holy Ghost has no other effect than pure intelligence. It is more powerful in expanding the mind, enlightening the understanding, and storing the intellect with present knowledge, of a man who is of the literal seed of Abraham…the effect of the Holy Ghost upon a Gentile, is to purge out the old blood, and make him actually of the seed of Abraham…
