‘But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.’ Acts 10:35
General Conference, ‘Hearts Knit in Righteousness and Unity’, October 2020 “Unity is enhanced when people are treated with dignity and respect, even though they are different in outward characteristics.
As leaders, we are not under the illusion that in the past all relationships were perfect, all conduct was Christlike, or all decisions were just. …
Our desire is that our hearts and minds will be knit in righteousness and unity and that we will be one with Them. …
We are all aware that we can do better, and that is our challenge in this day. … At this 200-year hinge point in our Church history, let us commit ourselves as members of the Lord’s Church to live righteously and be united as never before. …” — Quentin L. Cook
Acts 17:26 “And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation”.
Again, the Church has been making a lot of noise about the race issue. We’re wondering if Mr. Cook’s statement about a hinge-point, and their past behavior not always being ‘Christ-like’, is a precursor to repenting for their racist doctrine. We hope so!
One also has to wonder what Mr. Cook’s great-grandfather, Heber C. Kimball, would have thought about this talk. Kimball didn’t think too highly of non-whites, and even taught blacks are slaves mentally.
The glaring problem in all of this, of course, is their beloved canon; the Book of Mormon, and Pearl of Great Price. If they’re the only true church on the face of the earth, why is it a challenge to do better?
Please, pray for members to think about their church’s past, as well as what they’re teaching today!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
If the church and it’s leaders had been Christ Centered 190 years ago and were not so focused on the words of Joe Smith and Brigham Young, apologies from church leaders today would not be necessary. The church is still mired in racism. Church leaders today are worried about repercussions involving racist attitudes that have largely made up the foundation of today’s LDS church. One thing church leaders are very competent in doing, is to make excuses and creating cover ups that involve church history. Today’s church leaders would not be focusing on racial equality in their talks, were it not for the circumstances present in today’s progressive, PC, liberal, socialist environment. If church leaders were really serious about making amends, they would disavow certain church leaders and even change the name of their favorite university.
The problem is, the church was founded on the words of a mere man, Joe Smith. The Words of God (Bible) were ignored. God is timeless and the scriptures denouncing racism were for all time, including the days of Joseph and Brigham
A hearty amen to that!!!
