Matthew 15:9 “But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”
Today we’re looking at three comments from a talk given by Lisa Harkness at the October 2020 General Conference. If you’re unaware, Lisa Harkness is a counselor of the LDS Primary. To read her talk in full, see General Conference, ‘Peace Be Still’, October 2020.
This talk was based on the gospel of Mark, chapter four, where she used a few selected verses to remind LDS members to stay calm during difficult times. Before we go on, I want to be sure my message comes across loud, and clear.
My heart breaks for this woman, and those who’ve been misled by her false teachings. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say it’s sad, she’s so misled, and at the same time frustrated she would lie to people like my mother who most certainly listened to this woman’s talk.
We’re listing her three comments below, and comparing those with what the Bible says. The reason we’re pointing these out is to show why it’s vitally important to know the word of God. The ‘little’ things she said actually describe a different god than that of what is truth.
1.Many of Jesus’s disciples were experienced fishermen and knew how to handle a boat in a storm. They were His trusted—indeed, His beloved—disciples.
While the disciples were beloved of Him, Jesus entrusted Himself to no one because He knew the hearts of men – John 2:24. Loving someone doesn’t always mean we trust them!
2.They called Him “Master,” and that He is. He is also “Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father of heaven and earth, the Creator of all things from the beginning”.
First of all, Ms. Harkness was quoting a BoM verse in Mosiah 3:8 c. BC 124.
Secondly, Jesus isn’t the Heavenly Father. See post where Henry Eyring told LDS women, they’re daughters of both their heavenly father, and Jesus Christ. LDS Women are Daughters of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
Lastly, the LDS Church doesn’t believe Jesus, or God, created the earth.
3.Our faith grows as we experiment on the word of God with hope and diligence, trying our very best to follow Christ’s teachings.
We’re not sure what she meant with this statement. The Lord has never told us to experiment with His word. Yesterday we looked at Oswald Chambers’ devotional pointing out that if we hesitate in obeying Him, it’s because we’ve allowed someone else to be in competition with Him. Now, that’s a scary place to be!
Please, pray for Jesus to open the hearts, and minds, of the Mormon people. Experimenting with God’s word is a sign you’re not totally sold out to God.
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
HAH. The whole LDS religion is based on “experimenting” with God’s Word. And all the experimenting has taken them farther away from God.
Boy, hasn’t it ever. 🙁
“Experimenting on the Word of God”???!🤔 That just doesn’t sound right.
I came across this just the other day. Oswald Chambers had great insight…and I don’t think he “experimented”
The Spiritually Self-Seeking Church
“The church ceases to be spiritual when it becomes self-seeking, only interested in the development of its own organization”
If you want to read the whole devotional it’s July 12, ‘My Utmost For His Highest’
Thanks for this! I’ll be using it for sure; Chambers always had such great insight, and the Lord has blessed us by his work. 🙂
