Brigham’s Speech on Slavery, February 5, 1852, LDS Church Historical Dept “Let this Church which is called the kingdom of God on the earth;… [say] we will summons the first presidency, the twelve, the high counsel, the Bishopric, and all the elders of Israel, suppose we summons them to appear here, and here declare that it is right to mingle our seed with the black race of Cain, that they shall come in with us and be partakers with us of all the blessings God had given to us. On that very day and hour we should do so, the priesthood is taken from this Church and kingdom and God leaves us to our fate. The moment we consent to mingle with the seed of Cain the Church must go to destruction, we should receive the curse which has been placed upon the seed of Cain, and never more be numbered with the children of Adam who are heirs to the priesthood until that curse be removed.” – Brigham Young

1 John 2:9; “He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.”

Today in Mormon History; “125 years ago today -Tuesday, March 29th, 1892 — [Abraham H. Cannon] I asked Jos. F. Smith why it was that Ham’s son Canaan was cursed instead of Ham for exposing his Father’s person. He said that the Prophet Joseph is credited with saying that the sin of Ham consisted in trying to castrate his father, Noah, and kill his brothers, Shem and Japeth, so that he might become the head of the nations of the earth. Ham had married a daughter of Cain, and by him the curse was carried through the flood. The seed of this union is the Egyptians, who are not black, but after Ham’s curse, his seed was entirely black. Hence the difference between the races who now inhabit Africa. …”

Mormon Decisions 10Mormon Doctrine, p 343; “See CAIN, EGYPTUS, NEGROES, PRE-EXISTENCE, PRIESTHOOD. Through Ham (a name meaning black) “the blood of the Canaanites was preserved” through the flood, he having married Egyptus, a descendant of Cain. (Abra. 1:20-27.)  Ham was cursed, apparently for marrying into the forbidden lineage, and the effects of the curse passed to his son, Canaan. (Gen. 9:25.) Ham’s descendants include the Negroes, who originally were barred from holding the priesthood but have been able to do so since June, 1978.” – Bruce McConkie

Old-Testament-Gospel-Doctrine-Teachers-Manual-35570000The title for this week’s lesson is “If thou doest well, thou shalt be accepted” and the Church said its purpose is “To help class members understand that choices to follow Jesus Christ lead to liberty, happiness, and eternal life, while choices to follow Satan lead to misery and captivity.”

Mormon Decisions 10Official Statement of First Presidency, August 17, 1951; “Man will be punished for his own sins and not for Adam’s transgression. If this is carried further, it would imply that the Negro is punished or allotted to a certain position on this earth, not because of Cain’s transgression, but came to earth through the loins of Cain because of his failure to achieve other stature in the spirit world.” – George Albert Smith

Mark of Cain

Mormon Decisions 10Juvenile Instructor Vol. 26, No. 20, October 15, 1891, pg 635; “From this it is very clear that the mark which was set upon the descendants of Cain was a skin of blackness, and there can be no doubt that this was the mark that Cain himself received; in fact, it has been noticed in our day that men who have lost the spirit of the Lord, and from whom His blessings have been withdrawn, have turned dark to such an extent as to excite the comments of all who have known them.”

No  Priesthood for Cain until Abel has His Own Planet

The Church and the Negro, pg 48-49; “It was a great tragedy for Abel to be killed and thereby prevented from having any offspring. It is written that the blessings of exaltation consist in “the continuation of the family unit in eternity” and a “continuation of the seeds forever and ever.”  Abel was unrighteously kept from establishing any family ties or of being the progenitor of a great nation. The children that were to come to earth through the lineage of Abel had to be redirected through other lines. Abel was thus denied a tremendous blessing of having millions of spirits descending from him. Until Abel can have seed and until they have an opportunity of receiving the Priesthood, Cain’s descendants will not be allowed to have that Priesthood. Wilford Woodruff tells us, “…until the seed of Abel shall be redeemed…Cain shall not receive the priesthood, until the time of that (seed of Abel’s) redemption.

The obvious question is, “When will Abel’s seed be redeemed?” It will first of all be necessary that Abel marry, and then be resurrected, and ultimately exalted in the highest degree of the Celestial Kingdom so that he can have a continuation of his seed. It will then be necessary for Abel to create an earth for his spirit children to come to and experience mortality. These children will have to be “redeemed” or resurrected. After the resurrection or redemption of Abel’s seed, Cain’s descendants, the Negroes, will then be allowed to posses the Priesthood.”

Curse of Cain

Way to Perfection, pg. 106; “President Woodruff, in his journal, records the words of President Young as follows:  The Lord said, I will not kill Cain, but I will put a mark upon him, and that mark will be seen upon the face of every negro upon the face of the earth; and it is the decree of God that that mark shall remain upon the seed of Cain until the seed of Abel shall be redeemed, and Cain shall not receive the Priesthood, until the time of that redemption. Any man having one drop of the seed of Cain in him cannot receive the Priesthood; but the day will come when all that race will be redeemed and possess all the blessings which we now have. – History of Wilford Woodruff, p. 351.” – Joseph Fielding Smith

Blacks are Inferior

Race Problems–As They Affect the Church, August 27, 1954, address at CES convention at Brigham Young University; Think of the Negro, cursed as to the Priesthood.  Are we prejudiced against him? Unjustly, sometimes we are accused of having such a prejudice. But what does the mercy of God have for him? This negro, who, in the pre-existence lived the type of life which justified the Lord in sending him to the earth in the lineage of Cain with a black skin, and possibly being born in darkest Africa if that Negro is willing when he hears the gospel to accept it, he may have many of the blessings of the gospel. In spite of all he did in the pre-existent life, the Lord is willing, if the Negro accepts the gospel with real, sincere faith, and is really converted, to give him the blessings of baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost. If that Negro is faithful all his days, he can and will enter the celestial kingdom. He will go there as a servant, but he will get a celestial resurrection.” – Mark E. Petersen
