Thought of the Day about Mormonism, Romney, and Liberty University
Why?
Why would a Christian university continue to use Mormons as their commencement speakers when they in fact teach classes on cults?
This isn’t the first time Liberty’s done this. Glenn Beck has visited their pulpits as well. I’ve never counted the number of Christians who run ministries, churches, etc, but I would imagine Liberty University could get anyone they wanted to come speak TRUTH to their students from the ONE AND ONLY WORD OF GOD known as THE BIBLE.
They are inviting the spirit of Satan to stand at that pulpit. The god of Mormonism is NOT the God of the Bible. The Jesus of Mormonism is NOT the Jesus of the Bible. The Jesus of Mormonism is the brother of Lucifer and they have invited someone who believes in that to speak to their students.
To say that I am insulted would be putting it mildly.

The other day I read an article in my local paper about the impact Romney’s run for the White House is having on the general public, and Mormonism itself. The article interviewed two Mormon missionaries serving in the church I attended as a Mormon. The article confirms the concern many Christians have had from the moment Romney started to gain momentum in the race and as he gets closer to being the GOP nominee their concerns aren’t without merit.

Mitt Romney’s Religion
An article in USA Today caught my immediate attention today. “Will Mormons’ racial history be a problem for Mitt Romney?”

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Christian Behavior
Mitt Romney, Mark DeMoss at BYU and “True Christians”
Today I received a link to a story in the Salt Lake Tribune. Lo and behold there was another evangelical telling me (and millions of other people) that evangelicals can’t “attack and demean Mormons or President Barack Obama and still consider yourself a follower of Jesus Christ”.

Thought of the Day about Mormonism
Their Advertising Campaign for Mitt and Jon
According to the NY Times in November 2011, the Mormons hired two big name advertising agencies in 2009, Ogilvy and Mather and Hall and Partners, to gather info on what people thought of Mormons. For those who answered in the focus groups they found that if they had any opinion at all it was negative, listing their reasons as ““secretive”, “cultish”, “sexist”, “controlling”, “pushy”, and “anti-gay””. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/18/us/mormon-ad-campaign-seeks-to-improve-perceptions.html?pagewanted=all

Romney, Polygamy, Racism and the Mormon Church
Well tomorrow is a big day for Iowa. The elections on Tuesday night (January 3, 2011), are supposed to be a good indication of how the rest of the nation might look for the big vote come this November. Let’s pray that people will make good decisions when choosing who they want to represent this great nation of ours!

Romney and Huntsman Glaringly Absent in Iowa Family Leader Forum
Where were Mitt Romney and/or Jon Hunstman yesterday and why weren’t they at the Christian church in Iowa with all the other Republican candidates?
Ironically enough the name of the conference was “Family Leader Forum”. Mormons are all about families, right?
I have to wonder…did they not go because it was held inside a Christian church or was it because they might be asked about their faith? When I was a Mormon (for 30 yrs no less) it was drilled into me not to step foot in a Christian church or bookstore.

Mormon Ads and the Presidential Campaign
Journal of Discourses 2:182; “Brethren and sisters, our friends wish to know our feelings towards the Government. I answer, they are first-rate, and we will prove it too, as you will see if you only live long enough, for that we shall live to prove it is certain; and when the Constitution of the United States hangs, as it were, upon a single thread, they will have to call for the “Mormon” Elders to save it from utter destruction; and they will step forth and do it.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, February 18, 1855

Huntsman, Romney, Mormonism and Name Calling
While everyone’s busy pitching a fit over Pastor Jeffress’ comment this past weekend, the verdict is still out regarding John Huntsman’s comment about Jeffress in an interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN this morning. True to form the Mormon side of things took a turn for the worse with Huntsman calling the pastor a “moron” and giving his opinion that Mormonism has nothing to do with the Presidential campaign.

Moroni a Symbol of the Gospel
Gordon B. Hinckley, Heroes from the Book of Mormon, pg. 195; “From my window I frequently look at the figure of Moroni on the tallest tower of the Salt Lake Temple. He has been there since 6 April 1892…When the capstone was placed, thousands of voices joined in shouting, “Hosanna to God and the Lamb.” Later that day the statue was placed on top of the capstone.
Today, strangers who see him wonder who he is…Others are simply puzzled…But he is no puzzle to us. He is a symbol of the restoration of the gospel in this the dispensation of the fulness of times…Of all the characters who walk the pages of the Book of Mormon, none stands a greater hero, save Jesus only, than does Moroni, son of Mormon.”

Is Mormonism a Cult?
That is the question in today’s political news headlines and the word cult alone draws immediate reactions from both sides of the debate.
While Romney is trying to keep the focus on what he’s attempting to accomplish in becoming President of the United States, regular citizens and other politicians are still debating the issue. On Saturday, October 8, 2011, the Value Voters Summit hosted the gathering of conservative presidential hopefuls. A pastor from Texas introduced Perry as a God-fearing Christian and remarked to a reporter that Mitt is part of a cult. As you can imagine his comments raised a few eyebrows.

Mitt Romney, the United States and Mormonism
A few years ago my good friend Ed Decker called and asked me to help him out with a book he was writing at the time called “My Kingdom Come”. The book deals with many issues within Mormonism, but the chapter I contributed to was on my experience living as a “residual fruit” of polygamy. I shared in his book what it was like growing up with so many relatives and what it does to someone spiritually, mentally and emotionally knowing your sole purpose in life was to bear children for the Mormon god.

Another Mormon Running for POTUS
Jon Huntsman threw his hat into the ever widening ring of Republicans that are running for President of the United States of America.
