Isaiah 8:20 “To the law and to the testimony: If they speak not according to this word, It is because there is no light in them.”

Today we’re checking out what Joe Smith had to say about Enoch. To be sure, Smith was never short on opinions, but one of his favorite subjects was on the man from the Bible who’s only mentioned eleven times.

Little is known about Enoch outside of the eight verses we have in Genesis, and once each in Jude, Luke, and Hebrews. What we can say with certainty is that Enoch walked with God before He took him up to heaven as He did Elijah. We also know Enoch was 365 years old when he was translated. (more…)

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 3:320; “Yet Enoch had to talk with and teach his people during a period of three hundred and sixty years, before he could get them prepared to enter into their rest, and then he obtained power to translate himself and his people, with the region they inhabited, their houses, gardens, fields, cattle, and all their possessions. He had learned enough from Adam and his associates to know how to handle the elements, and those who would not listen to his teachings were so wicked that they were fit to be destroyed, and he obtained power to take his portion of the earth and move out a little while, where he remains to this day.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, April 20, 1856

Old-Testament-Gospel-Doctrine-Teachers-Manual-35570000The title for this week’s lesson is “If thou doest well, thou shalt be accepted” and the Church said its purpose is “To help class members understand that choices to follow Jesus Christ lead to liberty, happiness, and eternal life, while choices to follow Satan lead to misery and captivity.”
