Free Agency
Mormon Doctrine, pg 26; “Agency is the ability and freedom to choose good or evil. It is an eternal principle which has existed with God from all eternity.”
Journal of Discourses 7:374; “Have we not a right to make up our minds in relation to the things recorded in the word of God, and speak about them, whether the living oracles believe our views or not? We have not the right. Why? Because the mind of man is weak…” – Elder Pratt, Salt Lake City, January 29, 1860
John 8:32; “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
If free agency is so important to mankind why is there so much controlling going on in Mormonism?
Why is it so difficult for a Mormon to leave the Church without being harassed by the leadership and court systems they must go through to get out?
If free agency is truly a mainstay in the Mormon Church why aren’t Mormons allowed to make their own decisions?
Instead you have leaders and prophets saying things like Pratt did in our example above and the notorious comment made at a General Conference “When the leaders speak the thinking is done”. How does that comment equate to free agency?
