Journal of Discourses 11:269; “It is the word of the Lord, and I wish to say to you, and all the world, that if you desire with all your hearts to obtain the blessings which Abraham obtained, you will be polygamists at least in your faith, or you will come short of enjoying the salvation and the glory which Abraham has obtained. […] The only men who become Gods, even the Sons of God, are those who enter into polygamy.” —  Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake, August 19, 1866

Journal of Discourses 6:180-181; “The next man who came on to the carpet wanted to know how many wives brother Brigham had. I replied… ‘I will guess, if that will do you any good….he has some fifty or sixty.’” – Ezra T. Benson, Great Salt Lake City, January 24, 1858

Journal of Discourses 4:77-78; “I never preached to the world but what the cry was, “…Joe Smith has done thus and so.” I would tell the people that they did not know him, and I did, and that I knew him to be a good man… He may get drunk every day of his life, sleep with his neighbor’s wife every night, run horses and gamble, I do not care anything about that…But the doctrine he has produced will save you and me, and the whole world; and if you can find fault with that, find it.” – Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, November 9, 1856

Journal of Discourses 11:269; “I heard the revelation on polygamy, and I believed it with all my heart, and I know it is from God – I know that he revealed it from heaven; I know that it is true, and understand the bearings of it and why it is. “Do you think that we shall ever be admitted as a State into the Union without denying the principle of polygamy?” If we are not admitted until then, we shall never be admitted.” – Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, Aug 19, 1866

1 Thessalonians 5:22; “Abstain from all appearance of evil.”

The Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, p. 18; “We place him [Jesus] on a pedestal as no other group I know of. To us he is not only the Son of God, he is also a God and we are subject to him. And I am sure that no people in Christianity are so ready to sacrifice and consecrate their time, talents, money, and themselves to Christ and to his program on the earth. (1/9/48)…He is…the God of this earth…and…was crucified for the sins of the world…”

Teachings of The Presidents of the Church, Spencer W. Kimball, pp. 26-27; “This is the message of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. …

When Adam intentionally and wisely partook of the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden, he brought upon all of us, his descendants, two deaths—the physical or “mortal death,” and the spiritual death or the banishment from the presence of the Lord. In God’s divine plan, provision was made for a redeemer to break the bonds of death and… Jesus of Nazareth was the one who, before the world was created, was chosen to come to earth to perform this service…” [emp. mine]

Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, p. 20; “He himself [Jesus] specialized in character engineering, to make men, human masterpieces. He took a Peter and made a Saint. He took a Saul and made a Paul. And he took you and me and he will make of us gods if we will comply and follow along. What a picture! So terrible and yet so sublime.”

Journal of Discourses, 3:205-206; “…God never bestows upon His people, or upon an individual, superior blessings without a severe trial to prove they will keep their covenants with Him…For this express purpose the Father withdrew His spirit from His son, at the time he was to be crucified.

Jesus had been with his Father, talked with Him, dwelt in His bosom, and knew all about heaven, about making the earth, about the transgression of man, and what would redeem the people, and that he was the character who was to redeem the sons of earth, and the earth itself from all sin that had come upon it.

The light, knowledge, power, and glory with which he was clothed were far above, or exceeded that of all others who had been upon the earth after the fall, consequently at the very moment, at the hour when the crisis came for him to offer up his life, the Father withdrew Himself, withdrew His Spirit, and cast a veil over him.

That is what made him sweat blood. If he had had the power of God upon him, he would not have sweat blood; but all was withdrawn from him, and a veil was cast over him, and he then plead with the Father not to forsake him. ‘No,’ says the Father, ‘you must have your trials, as well as the others.’” – Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, February 17, 1856 [emp. mine]

Journal of Discourses 5:29-30; “Women are to be led. If I should undertake to drive a woman, I should have to drive her before me; and then she becomes my leader the moment I do that. I should lead her; and she should be led by me, if I am a good man; and if I am not a good man, I have no just right in this Church to a wife or wives, or to the power to propagate my species. What, then, should be done with me? Make a eunuch of me, and stop my propagation.” – Heber C. Kimball, Great Salt Lake City, July 12, 1857

The Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, p. 44; “As in Adam all die, so in Christ shall all be made alive. Adam and Eve transgressed a law and were responsible for a change that came to all their posterity, that of mortality. Could it have been the different food which made the change? Somehow blood, the life-giving element in our bodies, replaced the finer substance which coursed through their bodies before.”

Answers to Gospel Questions 3:207; “Question: “Why did Christ have to shed his blood in the atonement to relieve us of the responsibility of the fall?”

Answer: The reason that the blood of Christ had to be shed is because Adam was without blood before the fall. The blood came into his body afterwards. Therefore, it was necessary that the blood which came by the fall should be shed in the atonement.” – Joseph Fielding Smith

1000+ Mormon QuotesHere’s part two of the long overdue Worst of the Worst Mormon Quotes. This edition contains roughly 45-50 quotes we’ve seen in the past two years that were outrageously blasphemous.

As I mentioned in our last edition in 2014, I don’t post these things to be sensationalistic. The Church doesn’t need the competition, and quite frankly, that type of thing isn’t my style. Neither am I here to bash the Mormons, whom I consider to be my people. I love them dearly, and it breaks my heart to see the heretical things the leaders say.

1000+ Mormon QuotesContinuing along in our mini-series of Mormon quotes, I thought this subject matter was worthy of mention!

As I said before when we’re posting these things day after day it doesn’t dawn on us just how many outrageous teachings they’ve uttered.  What sticks out the most to me personally is how many of the Mormon leaders say such ridiculous things. It’s not just one of two of them and it’s not just on a rare occurrence – it’s happened quite often with no rhyme nor reason. Once we get them in one concise setting, the doors of their bizarre way of thinking become clearly evident.

3000 Mormon QuotesAs I mentioned last week Melissa and I have been organizing all our quotes and as I’ve been going through these things some categories stood out more than others.

Today I’m listing a few of our quotes that I’ve called the ‘worst of the worst’. Sometimes the remarks that LDS leaders have come up with boggles my mind.  I can’t get over how blasphemous some of these are.

Mormon Quotes A – Z (1,000+ Reasons to Leave the Mormon Church)

Introduction

Hideous.  That was the one word a pastor used to describe Mormonism to me. I was giving him pointers on how to counsel a brand new Christian who happened to also be a third generation ex-Mormon.

It’s easy for those of us who work in Mormon ministries to become immune to the day to day blasphemous teachings of the LDS Church.   So when someone comes along who’s unfamiliar with the nuances and outrageous theology, their opinion always gives us a fresh take on the scenario.

This list of Mormon quotes came about by providing PSA’s for a Calvary Chapel radio station in Nebraska.  The pastor in charge of the radio ministry asked me to give a 30-90 second side by side comparison of Mormonism vs. Christianity.  This is a short list of those PSA’s.

I’ve listed the LDS reference and a biblical rebuttal for each topic.  We pray these quotes will aid those of you who are looking for ways to witness to Mormons or give you a biblical reason to leave.  With Love in Christ, Michelle …

Keys to the Kingdom

Millennial Star, 2 Sept. 1889, pg. 547; The keys given by the Savior to Peter, James, and John, and given by them to the Prophet Joseph, have not rusted. They will open all spiritual doors of the dispensation of the fulness of times. . . .”How long will these keys last? President Wilford Woodruff stated:” ‘When the Lord gave the keys of the kingdom of God, the keys of the Melchisedec Priesthood, of the apostleship, and sealed them upon the head of Joseph Smith, He sealed them upon his head to stay here upon the earth until the coming of the Son of Man. . . . They were with him to the day of his death. They then rested upon the head of another man. . . . He held those keys to the hour of his death. They then fell by turn, or in the providence of God, upon Wilford Woodruff.” ‘I say to the Latter-day Saints the keys of the kingdom of God are here, and they are going to stay here, too, until the coming of the Son of Man. Let all Israel understand that. They may not rest upon my head but a short time, but they will then rest on the head of another apostle, and another after him, and so continue until the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ in the clouds of heaven to “reward every man according to the deeds done in the body” ‘ (Millennial Star, 2 Sept. 1889, p. 547).”” – “The Keys that Never Rust”, Ensign, Nov. 1994, pg. 73, James E. Faust.

1 Timothy 6:20; O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called.

Why would the Mormon people trust the Lord?  If the Bible is true then the Mormon leaders have lied and if the Mormon leaders have told the truth then God has lied.

Kill Your Neighbor

Journal of Discourses 4:220; All mankind love themselves, and let these principles be known by an individual, and he would be glad to have his bloodshed. That would be loving themselves, even unto an eternal exaltation. Will you love your brothers or sisters likewise, when they have committed a sin that cannot be atoned for without the shedding of their blood? Will you love that man or woman well enough to shed their blood? That is what Jesus Christ meant. He never told a man or woman to love their enemies in their wickedness, never…” – Heber C. Kimball, Salt Lake City, February 8, 1857

Exodus 20:13; Thou shalt not kill.

A man in Utah is facing the death penalty in June 2010.  He has chosen death by firing squad for taking the lives of two people.  To think this is what is honestly believed and lived by is totally outrageous and without excuse.

King, Who is

Improvement Era 1909, Vol. Xiii, No. 1; Every man reigns a king over the kingdom of—self. He wears the crown of individuality that no hands but his own can ever remove. He should not only reign, but—rule. His individuality is his true self, his best self, his highest self, his self victorious…Man reigns over this miniature kingdom of self—alone. He is as much an autocrat as is God in ruling the universe. No one can make him good or evil but he, himself.

1 Timothy 1:17; Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Hmmm, doesn’t leave much room for God now does it?

Kingdom of God

Preach My Gospel, pg. 17; The Lord has said, “Seek not to declare my word, but first seek to obtain my word, and then shall your tongue be loosed; then if you desire, you shall have my Spirit and my word, yea, the power of God unto the convincing of men” (D&C 11:21).

Matthew 6:33-34; But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.  34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

He kinda sounds Christian doesn’t he?  That’s what makes Mormonism so scary!

Kingdom of God a Garden of Eden in America

Journal of Discourses 8:196; In the beginning, after this earth was prepared for man, the Lord commenced his work upon what is now called the American continent, where the Garden of Eden was made. In the days of Noah, in the days of the floating of the ark, he took the people to another part of the earth: the earth was divided, and there he set up his kingdom.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, October 7, 1860

Mark 1:14; Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

The Garden of Eden was probably on the Euphrates.  Genesis 2:10-14 names four rivers; Pison, Gihon, Hiddelekel and the Euphrates.  None of those four rivers are in Independence, MO or America for that matter!

Kingdom of God on Earth

Millennial Messiah, The Second Coming of the Son of Man, pg. 2; The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is the kingdom of God on earth—the kingdom designed to prepare men to sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob…—has been set up among men; and to all the citizens of the kingdom…” – Bruce McConkie

Luke 17:20-21; And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: 21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

According to Jesus the Kingdom of God is already here for people – long before Mormonism came on the scene.

Kingdom of God, Smith Organized

Be Thou an Example, pg. 10; In 1845, less than a year after Joseph’s death, Parley P. Pratt wrote a summary of the Prophet’s work and a statement of our obligation to advance it. These words, poetic in their beauty, are as follows:  “He has organized the kingdom of God.—We will extend its dominion…” – Gordon Hinckley

John 18:36; Jesus answered, ‘My kingdom is not of this world’

They don’t own God’s kingdom, nor did Joseph Smith “organize” it.  How arrogant of them!

Kingdoms, Governing Own

Teachings of Lorenzo Snow, pg. 3; Man can possess the same glory as God. Through a continual course of progression, our Heavenly Father has received exaltation and glory, and He points us out the same path; and inasmuch as He is clothed with power, authority, and glory, He says, “Walk ye up and come in possession of the same glory and happiness that I possess.”

Ephesians 1:17-19; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, 19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power…

Mr. Snow, where in the Bible does God say those things?

Knowledge Essential for Salvation

Articles of Faith, pg. 48; A knowledge of good and evil is essential to the advancement that God has made possible for His children to achieve; and this knowledge can be best gained by actual experience, with the contrasts of good and its opposite plainly discernible.” – James Talmage

1 Corinthians 1:18-20; For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.  19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.  20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

Again, they are teaching dualism.

Knowledge is Salvation

History of the Church 5:403; “1st key: Knowledge is the power of salvation. 2nd key: Make your calling and election sure. 3rd key: It is one thing to be on the mount and hear the excellent voice, &c., &c., and another to hear the voice declare to you, You have a part and lot in that kingdom.

1 Cor. 1:19; For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

1. The power of God is the preaching of the cross which  the Mormon Church despises.

2. Your “knowledge” is but foolishness to God.

Knowledge of the Lord

Ensign, November 2009, pg. 13; The Restoration began with the prayer of a 14-year-old boy and a vision of the Father and the Son. The dispensation of the fulness of times was ushered in.”The Restoration of the gospel brought knowledge of the premortal existence. From the scriptures, we know of the Council in Heaven and the decision to send the sons and daughters of God into mortality to receive a body and to be tested (see D&C 138:56; see also Romans 8:16). We are children of God. We have a spirit body housed, for now, in an earthly tabernacle of flesh. The scriptures say, ‘Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?’ (1 Corinthians 3:16).” – Boyd K. Packer

1 Corinthians 15:44-47; And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

Why do these people use the Bible when they don’t even understand it?

Kolob is God’s Residence

Abraham 3:3; “And the Lord said unto me: These are the governing ones; and the name of the great one is Kolob, because it is near unto me, for I am the Lord thy God: I have set this one to govern all those which belong to the same order as that upon which thou standest.

1 Cor. 3:16; Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

God doesn’t reside on some make-believe star named Kolob.  God resides in heaven and will use earth as His footstool.
