Journal of Discourses 21:159 “It was this priesthood that would be the means of introducing him into the presence of God that Abraham found that he was a rightful inheritor of, according to his lineage and descent, and he applied for an ordination, which he received, according to the revelation given unto us, and with that ordination the powers, the blessings, the light, intelligence and revelation associated with the Gospel of the Son of God.” – John Taylor, 14th Ward Meetinghouse, December 7, 1879 (more…)

January2January 7 – Abraham. Who was he and does it matter? We find a great answer to this in Genesis 12:1-2. This passage sets into motion the foundational basis of every believer’s life! Ask yourself: are you willing to do as Abraham did? “Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing”.

3-in-1Before we begin our look at Joe Smith’s false interpretation of Egyptian hieroglyphs today, I’m compelled to give the reader a heads up!

While reading a sermon by LDS Apostle Neal Maxwell, about a half dozen problems from his text quickly ran through my thoughts.

Mr. Maxwell was quoting a passage from the Joe Smith inspired canon, Book of Abraham, located in ‘The Pearl of Great Price’. In this part of Mormon canon, Smith tried his hand at interpreting the ancient Egyptian language, which at that time was a new field just given birth to through the discovery of the Rosetta Stone.Reformed Egyptian jacob-hicks-photo-of-the-caractors

This particular passage was part of a larger narrative of the Mormon god sharing with the patriarch Abraham, that he lives near a star called Kolob.

Old-Testament-Gospel-Doctrine-Teachers-Manual-35570000As with most of their lessons this next one has a tiny bit of truth mixed in with a whole bunch of nonsense, I hope to adequately address both in the following paragraphs. The premise of lesson 9 centers on sacrifice, it gives a biblical account of Abraham’s attempt to sacrifice Isaac and touches on this being a similitude of God’s willingness to sacrifice Jesus.

Old-Testament-Gospel-Doctrine-Teachers-Manual-35570000The focus of this next lesson is how the Mormons can “hold fast to righteous standards during times of increased wickedness.”

It’s not hard for anyone to see the corruption and moral decay all around us, the recent Grammys is proof that. More and more people are accepting the things of the world as being truth, and dismissing the things of God as being not relatable to the times we live in.
