Garden of Eden
Evidences and Reconciliations, pg 127; “Latter-day Saints know, through modern revelation, that the Garden of Eden was on the North American continent and that Adam and Eve began their conquest of the earth in the upper part of what is now the state of Missouri. It seems very probable that the children of our first earthly parents moved down along the fertile, pleasant lands of the Mississippi valley.” – John A. Widtsoe
Genesis 2:8, 10-11, 13-14; “And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. 10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. 12 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; 13 And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.14 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.”
The three most important words in real estate is location, location, location. Those words also apply here! Mr. Widtsoe wrote these words in 1960 so it wasn’t like he wasn’t able to grab a map or a Bible for that matter to determine where God placed Adam and Eve’s dwelling.
I’ve been to Missouri and Illinois and I must say that while they’re pretty they certainly don’t qualify as the Garden of Eden!
And what’s up with his statement that Adam and Eve began their conquest of the earth? What battles were being fought? God deemed everything in the Garden as good. What was there to qualify as bad and the need for a conquest?
