John 6:38; “For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me”.
John 12:32-33; “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me 33 This he said, signifying what death he should die”.
There are numerous problems in the BoM passage, but the two things we’re focusing on today is how Nephi plagiarized the Apostle John and then twisted what the Lord said with a false teaching.
You’ll notice how they used the phrase “I came into the world to do the will of My Father” and “lifted up on the cross”.
They used 189 words to twist and confuse what Jesus said in 46 words.
They took away that Jesus said He came down from heaven and they did this because Joe Smith knew no one but Jesus has ever come down from heaven.
The BoM stated that Jesus said He will draw all men to Himself, but this isn’t Mormon theology. You can’t be saved if you’re not Mormon so it’s Moroni and Joe Smith who are drawing in all men, not God.
The BoM stated that if you endure to the end…OH PLEASE! This is an overused phrase in Mormonism that’s only used a few times at the most in the Bible and it doesn’t mean the same thing. Enduring to the end in Mormonism comes at the hefty price of earning your own salvation through works and not because what Jesus did on that cross. They even stated you’ll be judged according to your own works.
Folks, this is scary! If we’re judged by our works then Christ died in vain. Galatians 2:16, 21;
“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. 21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.”
Share this truth with your Mormon friends today and ask them what they think of these verses in John and Galatians. It’ll definitely give them something to think about.
