A cloud and harp are hardly a satisfying image for eternal joy, although most Christians would agree that inspired music can be a tiny foretaste of the joy of eternal salvation. Likewise, while few Latter-day Saints would identify with caricatures of having their own planet, most would agree that the awe inspired by creation hints at our creative potential in the eternities.
…Church members imagine exaltation less through images of what they will get and more through the relationships they have now and how those relationships might be purified and elevated. As the scriptures teach, “That same sociality which exists among us here will exist among us there, only it will be coupled with eternal glory, which glory we do not now enjoy.””
Deuteronomy 4:35, 39; “Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside him. 39 Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.”
Well that kind of blows the LDS theory of godhood status out of the water eh? There’s nothing “rooted” in the Bible that remotely suggests you can be like God except for when the serpent tricked Eve. Genesis 3:5
Moreover, what does this do to Joseph’s theory? His teachings on becoming gods were rather unabashed and unapologetic. What’s even more interesting in their rewrite of Church doctrine is the mention of Smith’s King Follett sermon.
Three months after he told everyone they could become gods he was killed.
What’s the purpose of the families are forever plan if you’re not going to get your own planet?
An e-mail I received today from the Church told me that Mormons have never thought of having their own planet someday and so it sent the Salt Lake Tribune out to sound the alarm and let everyone know what the true intentions are for that teaching.
Funny thing of that is – when I was a Mormon for 30 years (being from Utah no less) I always thought I’d be living on a different planet with a husband making spirit babies. Could it be everyone else is wrong or is it the Church?
We’ll be highlighting this LDS Gospel Topic in the upcoming weeks because we feel that if they’re going to start dismantling Smith’s pyramid scheme of gods, the rest of Mormonism must surely follow.
