Mormon Dilemma 873 Hiding, Ignoring Church History

New Era, “Balancing Church History”, June 2013; “Certainly, the world has changed in the last generation or two. The Internet has put all kinds of information at our fingertips—good, bad, truthful, untruthful—including information on Church history. You can read a great deal about our history, but it’s important to read about it and understand it in context. The difficulty with some information online is that it’s out of context and you don’t really see the whole picture.

Information that tries to embarrass the Church is generally very subjective and unfair. We should seek sources that more objectively describe our beliefs and our history. Some websites are very mean-spirited and can be sensational in how they present the information. Look for sources by recognized and respected historians, whether they’re members of the Church or not.

Some young people are surprised and shocked by anti-Mormon material on the Internet because they haven’t fortified themselves against it. They may not have spent enough time on the spiritual side to prepare and strengthen themselves for whatever may come. When life experiences come to knock their legs out from under them, it’s important that they do those basic things we always talk about: continuing to study the scriptures and having meaningful prayer with our Heavenly Father. Those basic things prepare people for all kinds of adversity, including anti-Mormon articles they’ll come across online.” – Steven Snow, Church Historian & Member of the Seventy

Luke 11:33; “No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.”

In light of Jesus’ words in Luke how should we interpret the Mormon teaching above?

If the LDS Church is the true light of the gospel why have they gone out of their way to hide their history? Why is it they’re only revealing the true history of Mormonism at this time?

Is it to combat the truth that’s been plastered all over the internet?

Are they trying to play catch-up with the times and have finally realized they can no longer play by their own rules?

It is agreed here at LAM that there are a lot of sites out there producing false information about the truth. It’s also well known there are many sites that are champions of truth and produce the information to enlighten the Mormon people.

What we found interesting is this man’s comment about Mormons who’ve had their legs kicked out from under them when they find out the real history of Mormonism.  Does the history of Christianity have that effect on the body of Christ?
