Isaiah 64:6; “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away”.
Christians know the verse from Isaiah rightly well. We know how disturbing the phrase “filthy rags” is to everyone, but because Mormons typically aren’t aware of its meaning allow me to define it here.
In Hebrew the word filthy is ‘ed – pronounced ayd. It means menstrual cycle.
That’s how God had Isaiah define your works. Filthy rags. Why would giving birth be greater than Jesus giving His life on the cross? Jesus said man has no greater love than he that lays down his life for a friend! John 15:13
You giving birth to another sinner can’t compare!
Brigham sounded as if he was giving permission for his women, aka property, to leave and they could easily be replaced.
The other obnoxious part of his sermon was telling women even in the 19th century their only worth was found in producing babies. Shame.
