Journal of Discourses 3:264, 268; “The spirits which are reserved have to be born into the world, and the Lord will prepare some way for them to have tabernacles. Spirits must be born, even if they have to come to brothels for their fleshly coverings, and many of them will take the lowest and meanest spirit house that there is in the world, rather than do without, and will say, “Let me have a tabernacle, that I may have a chance to be perfected.”… I do not feel that there is any requirement in this congregation for fresh teachings, or new revelations; if I am mistaken, all right.” – Brigham Young, Provo, July 14, 1855
1 Corinthians 15:44-47; “It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. 46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. 47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.”
This Orwellian snapshot of what they perceived reality to be is so far off the track it’s hard to find any semblance of truth in its context.
Notice also how Brigham announced he could be mistaken about needing new or fresh teachings. If he was a prophet wouldn’t he know if God had told him something?
The Saints were in desperate need of fresh teachings. Introducing them to the true God of the Bible would’ve been a breath of fresh air for all involved!
