Mormon Dilemma 998 Joe Smith’s Exciting Life

HC 5:389-390; “Excitement has almost become the essence of my life. When that dies away, I feel almost lost. When a man is reined up continually by excitement, he becomes strong and gains power and knowledge; but when he relaxes for a season, he loses much of his power and knowledge.” – Joseph Smith, May 14, 1843

Titus 2:6-8; “Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. 7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, 8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.”

Paul’s instruction all those years ago doesn’t translate to living a life of boredom. Rather, his instruction for the men was to live a life worthy of being looked upon as a good example. We can have fun filled, exciting lives and not sin!

Having an exciting life shouldn’t equate to tumultuous events as we see in Smith’s life. For ol’ Joe it was one thing after another as he went from state to state hiding from authorities, breaking the law, stealing from people and just being an all around scoundrel.

Aside from all that, does his life look like it matches up with what Paul said? If not, then why would you trust him as a prophet?
