LDS Seminary Kids Taught to Hide History

The Mantle Is Far, Far Greater Than the Intellect, pp 4-5; “The Lord made it very clear that some things are to be taught selectively, and some things are to be given only to those who are worthy…One who chooses to follow the tenets of his profession, regardless of how they may injure the Church or destroy the faith of those not ready for ‘advanced history’, is himself in spiritual jeopardy. If that one is a member of the Church, he has broken his covenants and will be held accountable.” – Boyd K. Packer

2 Corinthians 4:2; “But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.”

‘Advanced history’. Just what does that phrase mean – anyone out there know? Advanced history to me means AP (advanced placement) history classes in high school. What’s the deal with being sneaky? 

This kind of lying and deceit reminds me of what happened to my husband Kirk. Brand new college student meets young LDS girl who’s daddy is a bishop and as soon as they get him baptized she dumped him.  When I first met Kirk and he told me about his conversion story I thought ‘how did he fall for the ol’ date ‘em, dunk ‘em and dump ‘em’ routine? Well that was over 30 years ago and I’ve seen this more times than I can count. As with all converts who have left the Church say, they wouldn’t have joined had they been told everything up front. 

Our biblical text today is the antithesis of what the Mormon Church teaches. When we follow the Lord there’s no room left for hiding anything. Besides all that, if you have the truth why would you?
