When we consider the ancient methods of transmitting texts by hand, we realize that the Bible went through a remarkable process to make it into this century. The Dead Sea Scrolls stand as a witness that the Old Testament has been passed down through the centuries with a respectable degree of accuracy. For this, we must be grateful to prophets, scribes, copyists, and everyone who was responsible for the Bible’s transmission from generation to generation.” – S. KENT BROWN, RICHARD NEITZEL HOLZAPFEL
Isaiah 40:8; “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.”
For 180+ years the Church has gone out of its way to malign God’s holy word. They’ve spent more money in their misguided venture than most people in America will make in a lifetime. Someday I’ll have to gather all the quotes we’ve found for one post to show just how vile their teachings have been. In the meantime, you can read a few of them in our article ‘Why Joseph Smith Hated the Word of God’ here.
With that bit of insight you can imagine my surprise when I read the info in our dilemma today.
The article on the Dead Sea Scrolls makes one wonder why they say these things if it’s not a calculated measure to confuse its members. For the past twenty plus years I’ve pounded the pulpit, as they say, decrying the foul and slanderous remarks they’ve made about God’s word. They obviously have no shame.
In light of their latest discrepancy, I have a couple of questions:
Why do you carry those bibles around with you when you don’t have 100% trust in them?
What happens to the 8th Article of Faith which claims the Bible hasn’t been translated correctly?
“We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.”
Upon which principle do you now stand?
How do I explain this to my mother?
