Joseph Smith a Competent Scriptural Authority

Ensign, ‘Joseph Among the Prophets,’ June 1994; “There is another sense in which Joseph Smith was known to the ancients: he was schooled and tutored by them during his own mortal ministry. Save Jesus Christ only, the world has never known a more competent scriptural authority than Joseph Smith. It is one thing to read a book of scripture and quite another to be personally instructed by its authors. Who among the world’s scholars and religious leaders can lay claim to having stood face to face with Adam, Enoch, Noah, Moses, Elijah, John the Baptist, Peter, James, and John? Who can speak with authority about life in ancient America because of lessons learned from Nephi, Mormon, Moroni, and no doubt other ancient American Hebrews? (See Journal of Discourses, 13:47; 17:374; 21:94, 161–64; 23:362.) Many of Joseph’s heavenly visitors laid their hands on his head and conferred their priesthood keys and authorities (see D&C 128:20).” – Robert Millet

1 Cor 6:9-10; “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.”

Today we’re only going to address the necromancy problem in this dilemma and look at the biblical part at another time.

Here are two definitions of what Mr. Millet claims took place with Joe Smith –

Necromancy according to Dictionary.com:

1. the art or practices of a witch; sorcery; magic.
2. magical influence; witchery.

Holman Bible Dictionary:

“Conjuring the spirits of the dead to predict or influence future events. See Medium.

MEDIUM One possessed by (Lev. 20:22) or consulting (Deut. 18:11) a ghost or spirit of the dead, especially for information about the future. Acting as a medium was punishable by stoning (Lev. 20:27); consulting a medium, by exclusion from the congregation of Israel (Lev. 20:6). The transformation of Saul from one who expelled mediums (1 Sam. 28:3) to one who consulted a medium at En-dor (28:8-19) graphically illustrates his fall.”

There is absolutely nothing in the Bible to support the events in Mormonism were holy. All evidence points to the fact they are/were evil. All Bible dictionaries, concordances, commentaries and exhaustive historical writings contradict the claims of Mormonism.

Hangin’ out with dead spirits produces false testimonies and false gospels.

Why aren’t the blessings and gifts that God gave us through His word sufficient? As Jacob said in Genesis ‘put the strange gods away and be clean’! Genesis 35:2

How could Smith be a competent scriptural authority when he’s doing all the things God commanded us to stay away from?

As I mentioned earlier, we’ll look at this speech again to examine why the people who supposedly showed up weren’t really there.
